Yes you can, Opie will sell weights in 2.5 increments, and so do most fork oil mnfrs.AMCQ46 wrote:
BVG, I don't think you can buy 7.5wt, you generally have to mix it, but if they sell it in that weight then saves you getting 2 bottles, but make sure yu get enough.
Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
Cheers Tony, I never knew that, my local bike shops must be lazy and only stock the easy options!
one more action for anybody comming to the workshop day who is planning to do any work on their bike which involves removal of the petrol tank [which is almost all of the jobs on the engine or the front of the bike).............it is much easier to remove and refit the tank when it is empty, 16L of fuel weighs about 16kgs and is unstable as it sloshes around, driving a risk of chipping paint when it gets away from you.
SO THE CHALLANGE IS TO ARRIVE AT MY HOUSE WITH THE RED LIGHT JUST COMING ON
..........there is a Tescos garage 2 miles away, so dont fill up before you get here, do it when we are ready to leave.

Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
I was just looking at flight details, with the possibility of flying in from Malaga [to Birmingham] for the day, obviously I wouldn't have my bike but it would have been good to meet up with some of you guys, take the piss and learn how to fit my CCT'S - prices are pretty steep though, so it's not really an option..... €300 +
I flew Malaga to Stansted two months ago for €57 return, if prices were in this bracket, it would have been an option, assuming there's no restrictions on Johnny Foreigners attending? lol

Plane fares have gone up for the Olympics then.
Outgoing flights will go up in a couple of weeks cause of school holidays and the sensible ones running away from the Olympics.

Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
ref fork oil - I've ordered a litre of 7.5w, but what's the capacity of a fork? In the Haynes manual, it mentions 448cc (i think) +/- 2.5cc, so with 1cc = 1ml that's around 450ml. Is that per fork though or for both?

Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
I think it is per fork, but as I set to a height I never measure the volumn, but based on the Haynes number 1L will cover it.BigVeeGrin wrote:ref fork oil - I've ordered a litre of 7.5w, but what's the capacity of a fork? Bigveegrin - head bearings, fork re oil.
Cybercarl - pisstaking and banter and perhaps fork springs if he can be bothered and bringing ABBA stand fittings
Lloydiecbr pisstaking, banter and perhaps valve clearance and bringing more stands
Geodude pisstaking and banter if he can get a babysitter....just put her in the topbox........George, you confirmed yet mate?
Cliveyandrews and P - bottom!!! (yoke), Head bearings, biscuits and sarcasm
Steve6088 braided hoses
Noblevtr stopper mod and carb balance
Humberty???????? reading other posts I thought you had done the stopper mod so perhaps it is just valve clearance........please confirm
KevL??????? - in doubt, not sure if his heart can cope with the proximity of other faster colours
PlayerOne??????? CCTs and valve clearance - provisional
Dandyhighwayman - find missing power (bring yellow paint)
Buclandswifty - valve clearance
Seb - valve clearances
We will have the shim kit, but those doing valves or CCT mods need to check your inspection caps will come undone.
Those doing bearings make sure you have got a kit which includes the new top and bottom seals.
Carb balance make sure you have the brass adaptor to fit the front cyl, and a t-piece (although we can nip out to the aquatics shop for that and some hose if needed) .
Please add your name to the list if you want to come, and keep me updated if you have to drop out.
Location is B94 6qq, just off the M42 jkt4.
Get here about 9 for bacon butties, there will be no commentarative stickers, but you can have a used and greasy latex glove to take away.
Anybody else in or dropping out? I need to plan how much bacon!
Forecast is saying overcast on one prediction and the met office web says showers in afternoon.........so that is an improvement [but will all change tomorrow
], but as said there is now a Gazebo for working outside and the garage is cleaned out and we can work 3 bikes in there.

Re: Midlands worshop day 2012 - 21st July
I won't be doing fork springs mate. Can't afford them yet. And I'm still umming and arghing over whether to just go down the Blade route.
I do have some new diaphragm springs so I shall be whipping my carbs off and doing them. And I shall most probably be whipping Seb's carbs off, checking them over and give them a clean through. Maybe put some 48 pilots in and then reset his TPS.
So anyone not busy doing anything and wants a lesson in stripping carbs and cleaning.

Carl, That sound good..........you are now assigned as the Carb man for the day
Lloydie and I will have to look after the metal bashing [CCTs, shims and steerind head bearings]
even if you havent got a set on manuals to fit, we can quickly help you fit the stopper mod to your existing Honda CCTs so you are safe till you get your manuals, and you also know how to do the job when you are in your own shed
