I think being a postman would be a great job except that the government seems to want it to fail and then they can privatise it. After that it will go the same as most private firms with less and less rights/benefits.
But for the time being if you like walking in all weather and wearing shorts go for it.

I work for Romec which is Royal mails facilities, we look after all their buildings.

Postman, its a good job to have, very union driven, can get a little stressful at times, royal mail are making the posties delivery rounds bigger and making them post more sh1t through the letter box. by all accounts its no where near like being a postie of old its all changed with Royal mails "modernisation plan" and centalising of PO's and DO's, depends on where you are really.
How goods your checkable history, they normally do a 5-10 year back ground check for criminal record and work history, was talk of royal mail dropping this but not sure if they did.
medical covers ment to be very good, but they have almost a zero tolerance to absenteeism from work, they dont see you as being of sick they see you as absent, only alowed so many days off a year absent, of you go over that you then only allowed 2 more occurrence's totaling 12 days within 6 months for stage warnings.
got some more info on it somewhere can dig it out

Again its not a bad job, your get bloody fit lol

Well, checkable work record should be ok, been self employed for a lot of it, run my own small construction company, just lately worked in the local greenhouse, so not too many gaps, did 9 years in the Paras so fitness not a problem i like walking, not too keen on unions their ok do some good work as long as its not over the top, I suppose there will be endless application forms to fill in, a medical, and all that bull, but yeah sounds ok might just give it go.
Thanks for the feedback fellas, if you can find it Tony, a bit more info cant do any harm.

Cheers

A job is a job at the end of the day. And a postie ain't a bad job either mate so go for it if it's not for you then you can always look else where.

Good luck

will still need posties though.

Friend of mine was one and although he lived in a flat, he was a member of a good local golf club, drove a TT, had four overseas hols a year etc. I looked at it and while the base pay is low, the overtime was almost constant.
