Would this be unwise?

Post by scott02464 »

I'm wanting to give my K&N filter a clean out and just wondered if using Carb cleaner would damage it?

Obviously would oil it back up after....

All you need is a suitable solvent to remove old gunky oil, wash - dry thoroughly and then use recommended aftermarket filter oil.

Not K&N but same principles

I use a pipercross spray cleaning & spray oil kit, more easily available than K&N equivalent, on my K&N.

As an alternative to the proprietary spray cleaner I'd go for gunk type degreaser, with a warm soapy wash, rinse and dry in the sun before re-oiling.

Wow, it says should be cleaned every 50k miles! In that case it'll prob never need doing!

My bikes got 37k on it in 13 years! Lol

I cleaned my k&n with the stuff from k&n
It cost £9 from eBay .
You get the cleaner and oil .
You'd be surprised just how much dirt comes out the filter Even after 2000 miles of use .
And if you over oil the filter the bike will run like crap .

Yes indeed. I guess it would cough and splutter and bunny hop down the road. And it would slow down the popping fish sound.
