Post by lloydie »

Just been out and got my knee down for the first time on the storm.
And I can't believe just how far i need to hang off it and how far you need to lean it .
If I was capable I'm sure I could of touched to road with my hand !
So im a happy chap tonight

I can honestly say I have never tired. Might be more to the fact there are no knee sliders on my leather trousers, the new ones on the other hand will have. I can however get nearly all the way to the edge of my tyres with that little bit of room left in case it needs to go over further for any reason. I seem to strougel to get the bike all the way over without the mrs on the back  Any tips? only a light fella. maybe 10stone with leathers on. Trying to get my knee down the best way to sort the problem when on my own?

Congrats on the achievement :D ........ Jellious.

I used to try this but don't bother anymore as I find I piss past blokes on sports bikes trying to get their knee down when it makes no difference at all on the orad; and that's on my TDM!
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

My tip would be to not do it with the mrs on the back:lol:

Find a large-ish smooth roundabout, Get your butt right off the seat, use your left leg to grip the tank/seat (leaning right) and get to a steady speed, not too fast but you don't want to be on/off the throttle, pluck up some courage and lean as far as you dare! It'll take you a while tho to go low enough (unless there's gravel on the roundabout lol)

Once you've done it once tho you'll just plonk the knee straight down after that and wonder what you were pissing about at ha ha. But you'll have a right grin when it first kisses the Tarmac!

It did make me jump the first time so I did it again :-) .
I've done it on the blade but couldn't before today do it on the vtr .
I think seat hight has a lot to do with it .
The blade ain't as tall .

I can't believe just how far i need to hang off
That wouldn't have anything to do with the length of legs would it. Tyres would be nice and sticky in this weather as well :)

Although it must be a real rush to get your bike over so far (I've never done it) I would say that is it necessary as part of day to day riding. I've always been of the impression that taking a good line round the corner produces the desired effect....smooth acceleration out of it. I changed the way I cornered forever after going out with a bike cop on that bike safe scheme thingy ma jig. My cornering improved vastly and I enjoyed a nice rapid ride much more.
Saying that, I've never done a track day either and if I did that would be the top of my list, oh yes so well done fella on getting it right. Doing so on a Storm is damn good going

when i get my knee down its on the limit, any further and the back tyres starts to come out. so its a good indication on how far you can go.

the reason you get your knee down is just for a marker, what your meant to do is get your body off the bike so the bike gets less of a lean angle ..sooo you can go faster, so i'm told

no need if your riding steady, i only do it when i'm booming it

i just wanted to see if i could do it on the storm and now i can say i have  .
i have had it where ive gone off the edge of the rear tyre before 180 that aint a nice feeling  .
so i just wanted to know how far i need to hang off to touch down .
my left leg is only thing on the seat (my ample butt is off the bike and im doing the splits lol)
it is something i wanted to do on the storm before it took it on a track day .
ive just put back on the knee sliders that kev gave me with my gimp suite as they are much taller than the wolf ones i put on it so i hope next time when i try it i wont have to lean it so far  .

Get yourself some sparkle sliders mate. I got some Motrax ones in white/black for £14, nice noise, nice action and sparks as well
I have a set of Motrax Ti covered sliders I bought years ago but can't bring myself to use as it will ruin them in a very short time. I know that's what they're for but they are Ti, "must keep the precious!"

I have thought about sparks but they all look to slim :-)
I need wet sized sliders to stop my knee from touching . As you can see from the slider in the pic I touch down very high on the slider . As I get better at it I should be able to use the lower part of the slider to .
You kev are such a titanium and carbon tart lol
