Number plate bracket Tail tidy

Post by VTRDark »

I have just recently purchased an undertray very much like the style of the Pyramid one's.

I have been looking for a numberplate bracket for it but am struggling for a good solution. All the universal type ones appear to fix to the bike from underneath and then the number plate part swivels round. Or they are to small with indicators brackets for indicators higher up.

Because of the SP1 style cans the exhaust outlets are pretty much parallel with the plate, I also struggle for good indicator fitments as the cans are about an inch away from the side.

So I'm looking for something where the top of the plate falls slightly lower than my cans and has indicator mounts preferably with some adjustability. I can then get some decent indicators with a stem.

I would like something similar to what Marty has here but a little lower down.

So can the good folks on here post some pics of their solutions to this problem or point me in the right direction for decent brackets. The bracket has to be either Black or even better be made of Carbon fibre.

Thanks (:-})

There's and idea, may be a bit ugly though and not that bright. I was thinking of buying some higher quality led's. Maybe some Oxford Nano's/Eyeshots, Galileo (I really like the style of these) or Oberon billets.

I have also got to think about where to put a reflector as it's a legal requirement.

I had the same issue a while ago and just used a black universal Bike It one.
It's made of stamped ali, but isn't very heavy.

However I have a brand new one sitting beside me ready to fit as the old one fractured after only a few months, so I'll give it one more try, with a small reinforcing strap to prevent any movement this time....
The little indicator brackets that come with it are mountable on the number plate drop down part in two of four holes, so can vary in height and width, and can be fitted to allow small indy's to be used.
It clears my MIG high levels nicely.

Don't think I have a pic posted, so will get one up tomorrow for you.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Can't you make something up out of sheet Alloy trimmed and drilled to fit?

I was looking at that one Tony and trying to work out how it could be fitted. The obvious way is the shorter end where the indi brackets are, but I was concerned the indis may be too high up. It got be thinking is there away of mounting it the other way with it angled 90 degrees and attached underneath the undertray. or if it was chopped shorter, slot a horizontal hole in the rear off the undertray by the seat lock, slide it through and bolt it from the inside.

Where was the weak point that broke, was it the pivot area.?

I have indy's that are designed sort of sideways, so that they sit with the lenses like the vertical arms on a letter H.
They're on short arms, and clear no trouble.

The bracket fatigued on the plate bolted to the undertray, where the two side arms hold the pivot for the lower number plate section.

To be fair; I bent them a little to fit the profile of the carbon undertray, but this time I'll rubber mount them and as I said, use a strap mounted transversely underneath teh plate just as near to teh pivots as I can.

That should do it.

If not, I'll buy a reg plate with fewer digits/numbers, like A1, so that the plate itself will be lighter.

That online parts shop do some nice bits and I like the way the do their listings. You should get resistors from them as well Marty. You do realise though, I don't feel like going anywhere near that wiring in your tail light  :biggrin

I like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190698057441? ... 1423.l2649

Good idea those number plate indicator lamps but I could not have them hanging off the back like that. Would have to try to get them in the fairing somehow. You not thought about the indicator/brake light LED lamp for the rear. Still not sure if they would pass MOT though :?

I think those indicators would look like a couple of eyeballs either side of the numberplate.

I'm not a fan of the integrated stop and tail, indicators. Also it's illegal to have them set up like that and it would fail an MOT. I don't mind bending/breaking a few laws, my cans are enough. But to many rule breaks and it's just pushing my luck. I've had enough troubles with the authorities in the past. Now I'm a bit older I just don't wont the grief.

Anyone tried one of these brackets http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TAIL-TIDY-x-r ... 53ee73f5ccIs it worth the money. I could even drill holes in the bottom and move the indicator brackets down there. Well the option is there if needed.

I did wonder if there would fail MOT. I had a set on my SV where 1 side light would turn off as the indicator came on. Soon changed it back to the origional indicators so I did not want to risk it at MOT. There are some fine rules with the MOT manual which can not easily be desifered and so is easy to fall on the wrong side on the line. Had a truck in at work today where 3 of us had to read the manual and try to figure out whether it would pass MOT or not with the light set up it had on there. A combined experance of 40+ years
