I'm about to do my CCTs. First job, make the locking tool...out of interest I checked to see if they are for sale anywhere...Oh, yes but at $82.00 each here
Noticed no one on Facebook had liked it.

If you are replacing with manual CCT's then there is no need for the locking tool. If the cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke it is safe to just remove the old Honda Auto's. It's best to alternate between the two bolts that hold it in place, doing a bit at a time.

+1 on that. I didn't use a locking tool when I did mine.cybercarl wrote:If you are replacing with manual CCT's then there is no need for the locking tool. You don;'t need a locking tool anyway; just hold a small screwdriver in the cct and undo the last bolt carefully, it'll come out in your hand without retracting and you can then measure it.
I'll have finished the job by the time you've filed one out of a bit of scrap steel!

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I made the locking tool just as per the haynes manual and it didn't work, however as said you don't need to bother with the tool at all. It's not needed if you are swapping to manuals, tighten the manual ones until you can't tighten any more and back out half a turn seemed spot on when I checked my camchain deflection.

Oh well, I've made it now...followed the pattern in the Honda workshop guide.
I'm going for the stopper mod, not new CCTs. The main reason is cost. We've had a lot of expense recently and I want to make the bike safe until I can afford new manuals which hopefully I won't need until later in the season. Just now I don't feel confident riding it in case it blows up !
So much for keeping cost down - I'm already £11.00 down for a new generator centre cap unless I can clean up the one I've just dug out with a punch.

Yeah you deffo need the key mate for the stopper, to measure the gap where the 'stopper' will go. When I bought new ccts (to do the stopper) they came with a key so I never needed to make one. Although it was quite flimsy and was bent out of shape when I'd finished lol.mr.john.coates wrote:Oh well, I've made it now...followed the pattern in the Honda workshop guide.

It's a good move. It always played on my mind while riding my bike before I done mine. It's no joke having valves crashing.Just now I don't feel confident riding it in case it blows up
