NSR500

Post by scott02464 »

Iv just come across this vid on YouTube of some NSR's ranging from 1984 to 2001.

But why do they constantly keep blipping the throttle? Is it a two stroke thing, why?

perhaps they have no idle circuit?

I've ridden hundreds of two-stroke snowmobiles and can assure you it's not a "two-stroke" thing.....

Possibly little or no flywheel....

I've watched them warming up the little honda 6's at Goodwood, and they won't tickover at all....

That makes sense guys ;-)

What are the benefits to not having a tick over circuit? It can't be a weight thing?

On a nice race tuned 2 stroke you tend to blip the throttle for a number of reasons

1) when starting from cold they don't idle well, so you blip to make sure it won't stall
2) it is the normal way to warm them up as you need to get some heat in so they don't cold seize.
3) as the oil to the big ends and piston is mixed in the fuel, it makes sure you are getting some extra in there to lube everything.
4) because it sounds great :D
