Hi there , I have not been here for a while. Just looking into the possibility of my Son getting insured on the Storm after passing his bike test. It looks like he can insure it and he will have to get a restrictor to fit it (seen one on e bay).
Are there any other riders on here who had the Firestorm as there first bike after passing their test?
first big bike after passing test
Re: first big bike after passing test
I had cbr600f for about 2 months after passing and bought firestorm

Re: first big bike after passing test
My first road bike was the storm, two mates got a ZX6R and a R6 the storm was is a quicker bike but much safer and easy to ride than those, never had a restricted licence just did DAS my self
Had the storm now 4 years, been a very good bike and coped well with all weather thrown at it, we'll ok the pond size puddle wasn't a good idea but other than that it's a great bike to learn on, fit it with some pilot road 3 and you will be a worry free parent

Re: first big bike after passing test
I had an R6 before the storm and like Seb said it was a lot more savage and aggressive, the storm I find is more forgiving.
I must say tho I did work my way up rather than just jump on a half decent rocket ship. Although it depends how sensible you are lol

Re: first big bike after passing test
Thanks for the replies lads; he is 19 and has been on the road since 16 he has done a lot of miles (he gets through 9 litres a day on his 125). He should be fine on the storm, he has got over his falling off period when he was on the scooter!
The storm is sitting in the garage doing nothing,so he might as well put it to good use.
Since I have had the Hayabusa the Firestorm has been a bit neglected.

i wouldn't say that they (the sports 600's) was savage or anything you just had to work them a lot more than the lazy twin on a blast, just that the power band of the storm lends its self beautifly to a novice rider, the storm mullered the both at race starts tooscott02464 wrote:I had an R6 before the storm and like Seb said it was a lot more savage and aggressive, the storm I find is more forgiving.

engine feel and feedback is far better imo on a twin than an in-line 4 as well,
for me i was confident right from the off having been riding off-road riding for years but i shouldn't see it as a problem for your lad as he's been on bikes for years now
my advice would be to new riders don't ride on the left in the gutter, i see so many new guys with L plates in the gutter, when i'm on the bike i ride generally where a cars diver would be sat about 2/3 of the was across the lane from the gutter, i try and take up a dominant position on the road, but my mate on his 125 he will ride in the gutter and on 30 mph roads have cars up his butt and pushing to get past and passing him even though he's sat at over 30mph
i tell him not to be so subjective and to take possession of the road and look confident but it falls on deff ears.
i wound up with the storm because when i passed my dad wanted a blade so i bought his storm as it was cheep to insure and he went and bought the blade he wanted for years

Re: first big bike after passing test
I reckon it would be a good learner bike. I had a SV650 as my first bike, now the sisters boy friend has it as his first bike bike, just needs to pass his test. Not sure what it would be like with a restrictor kit on. You might need to get it fitted by a garage as I know some insurance companies ask for a copy of the cirtificate to show it has been fitted. Good luck to him and hope he enjoys it.
Re: first big bike after passing test
Why not just get him and the Storm to a track evening for a few quid and see how he gets on?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
