TYRE HEADACHE
well after 4000miles my rear metz m1 is on the wear lines.but.the front m1 is hardly worn.i need a touring tyre really.so.if i put a macadam on the rear and leave the m1 on the front, will i ruin all the handling?ive never mixed tyres before.but really..most of the rears and some fronts look the same any tyre experts out there? i wont be doing track days or used in the rain or for any knee down antics..too old for all that
.cheers!

I have a half used Michelin Pilot Sport on the F & a 1/4 used Dunlop D220 sport-touring tire on the R that I bought when the Michelin R wore out. I have found no problems at all w/handling.
Do your tires wear out down the middle, or evenly?
From this forum I've found that many of you in the British Isles like to run a sport tire on the front & a sport-touring tire on the rear. Makes sense to me.

It's about the road, not about the chrome.

Am in the same boat ! Running sportmax front and rear but the fronts hardly worn ( although evenly ), and the rears about due a replacement ! ( heavily worn in centre )
Thats using the correct Honda pressures.
Been advised to go to Battlax 020 rear and 010 front ??????
Grip has never been an issue though, seemed great to me. And had Battlax 020's on my zx10 and they performed great, in the dry and wet.

Hey yellafella, you mentioned they wear down the center on R & you use std. pressures. Ever thought of lowering the R pressure? There's a good chance that might give more even wear. Plus the std. Honda pressures are quite high compared to other bikes I've seen. I checked the Metzeler website & they recommend 34F/36R on the VTR1000F.

Yeah steve, actually i probably should try that, although these tyres were on the bike when i got it, about 3000 miles ago. But will look up the Battlax recommended pressures when i get them fitted.
On my zx10 were originally fitted Metzler ME1's, which i found too harsh and a little slippy in the wet, but again i probably was using Kawasaki recommended pressures.
There appears to be something to be said for looking up manufacturers recommended pressures, but do they take into account bike weight, rider weight, braking, suspension set up, etc,etc ? No two storms will ride alike i dont think.

Just looked up the pressures as recommended by Dunlop and they are the same as Hondas . . .

They're sh!te
Get the matching MEZ sports tourer (MEZ-4 I think) more mileage and hardly any noticeable loss of grip
Much safer than macadams and a matched pair.

Re Avon's
I fitted the Azarro`s (ST45 & ST46) last June, i have been to europe twice (France and Assen) done two track days and completed the rest of the year up to date on the same tyres. (approx 6k in total).
The rear is now down to the wear markers in the centre, and the front is just about half worn.
I have had no issues what so ever with grip......
I have however decided to have a go with the new Avon Vipers this summer , (cos i got them at the right price)
I`ll keep ya all posted on the performance and wear rate....
Hooner

Cuppa Said
Slight problem though.... Having my own car this winter ( first one I have ever owned
) The bike's only come out on dry days
It's turned me into a real sissy this year so I've hardly done any miles worth talking about.
I could probably do a two page litteny on "How salty Roads Have F_ck_d Up My Bike" though.
Still, winters behind us now so I'll be able to finish them tyres off soon enough
Pete.l
P.S Little Bro wont let me ride his biKe anymore
I can't imagine why
Nice to be remembered Cuppa ThanksPete, what happened to the Avons you fitted? Isnt it about time for another of your 2 page write up's..."avon tires 6 months on"?
