Wife's not talking to me - bought my son his first bike

Just bought my 17 year old son a little KH100 it's a lovely little bike even though its 33 years old. My wife is seething, because I bought it without saying anything and the cost and the fact she is scared he will come off or get knocked off. To make matters worse I just had to sort out his provisional licence (more money) then there is the CBT and insurance!
Dog house! Wow I'm in the Dog 5 star hotel I can tell you. She is absolutely fuming with me

She is not happy at all. Pick the bike up this Saturday, few little jobs to do on it, then wait for his provisional and then book CBT. I had a KH100 in 1985, I rode it everywhere, brilliant and super reliable, did nearly 70mph much safer than a slow scooter with tiny wheels and brakes. I obviously dont want him to come off it but if you lead your life for fear of accidents you wouldn't do anything so I am more chilled about it. Daughter drives a car so she is sorted (not interested in bikes) son would rather have a bike than a car, he didn't want a 50cc bike so waited until he is 17. Been looking for something decent but cheap for a while then this little Kwak came up

Your not wrong there. Also it does not have the reputation of some of these scooter hoons have. I'm not a fan of twist and goes, manual control (control being the word) is much better.
My first bike was an RD125 twin the model before the LC's. Great bike had loads of fun on that. Had it for two years on L plates when I was 17.

I think the problem with the wife is not that you bought a bike for him. It's because you did not discuss it with her first. But its a catch 22. If you had of discussed it, she would have most probably said no. And then you would have bought it anyway and you would be in the dog house for that. So as usual men can't win when woman are involved. Dammed if we do and dammed if we don't

At least you have the sure knowledge that IF he has an accident it won't be his fault.

Because it'll be yours, and you'll be reminded of that fact repeatedly, at length, regularly, for a long time.

At this age you have to worry that the crank seals may have perished if the bike has been standing too long. This one had stood for 14yrs and needed an engine rebuild to replace every seal. Good as new now

Will also help your son if he gets some practice off road. You need to slide and crash to get the feel of the limits and what to do when you cross them and the best way is on the dirt.

Even a trials bike will be a big help
