Hi all
My filler cap has taken to sticking, sometimes taking five minutes to bloody open when I'm at the petrol station.
The key opens the lock just fine, but the filler cap seems to stick inside the aperture. The warmer weather, the worse it is. I'm not sure if I need a new filler cap and if so, can I swap the lock out and retain the same key?

Spray some wd40 down the lock and on the locking pins .
It will be very hard to change the barrel in the cap but a good lock smith could do it .

I had this yesterday with the Derbyshire run. Don't know if anyone noticed. Sorry for holding you up slightly. Wd40 worked a treat on mine. Like lloydie said, in the barrel and the pins which pop out the sides of the fuel cap on the underside. Work it a couple of times and should be as good as new

Thanks guys I'll give it a whirl. I'd already tried smearing some grease around the lip where filler cap meets the outer edge but it made no difference. The key does turn all the way to the right and feels like its not jamming but I'll try anything at this stage as its a pain in the butt when it happens. 5 minutes sat there at the pump getting pissed off with it.

Be careful WD40 is a degreasent & moisture remover. It will remove particles & clearout all lubrication within the locking mechanism. Best to then use a little graphit powder to re lub the mechanism.

WD40 is a penetrating agent. Brilliant at what it does but don't use it near sealed bearings or chains as it will get past the seals and wash the lubricant out!
GT85 is also a penetrating agent but contains PTFE so also lubricates and drives out moisture. Smells great, you can use it on plastics to give a nice shine and it's good at removing tar.
I regularily spray moving parts on my bike with it, spray electrical connections after washing to disperse water and if I'm feeling lazy spray it on a rag and wipe the fairing to clean it!

I always use WD40 on all the locks on my bikes, never had any problems.
Also use it to clean my chain then relube the chain.
been doing this for 20 years.
If anyone uses there storm for the winter, coat the whole thing in AC50 around November and dont clean the bike till march.
