Well the thread was about the oldest rider but its really great to see that the age group for 'Storm riders runs from 20 to old enough to know better :lol: :evil:
The 'Storm seems to be a great bike to have a mid life crisis on though :lol:

as a younger rider i find the sports bike world in general really hard, as everything is so expensive, even simple things! I also find that A LOT of the older riders dont want to talk to me as much as rs50 kiddies do, is this an age thing do you guys think?

They are NEVER unfriendly, just i find that once my bash hat comes off and they see im not the average litre bike age i get odd looks and the did u scuff them sliders yourself or did daddy do it jokes (thanks for the knee down tips phat if u reading this). I was just wondering peoples comments on this as its an age related thread and has been a question ive been thinking about for awhile now!

Cheers, great forum (need i say it again!)

If people are like that, they're not worth talking to anyway!

I am 40 nearly and have had bikes constantly since I was 16 with my first AP50, I have grown out of the fast fast thing and now have a bike with character. I have noticed in the last couple of years there is a huge increase in miserable b@stards out there that no longer acknowledge the other bikers anymore. Perhaps its just me but I wave or nod to anyone on 2 wheels and the reponses always used to be good but now especially the R1/Gsxr merchants just ignore every one else, Its very sad really as comaraderie was on of the big things when I was a kid. It probably bodes badly for biking in general as we have to stick together to stop the politicians screwing us over.

Max, thats never a truer word spoken!

I dont know about everyone else but when i nod to a biker passing me or say hi to one coming out a shop and they dont nod or respond i personally find it quite rude!

I love the way bikers help each other out, and many times ive stopped to help people who have broken down, and visa versa. However ive seen mutliple R1s just zoom past stranded riders! (nothing against R1s but they are midlife crisis machines for ponses). What bugs me is they would be all too happy if they were the ones broken down but cant do it for others?

I find that sunny sundays are the biggest problem for this, loads of people who just polish their bikes and potter about. After chatting with my mates about this we decided that many of them dont realise as they are not true bikers thus do not understand the nodding, or are plain and simple boring gits!

~~~~~END OF RANT~~~~
thanks for bearing with my terrible grammer/spelling btw!
Was 43 on 20th.
Hey Squiff - you were at school last so how about doing the sums and working out the average Stormer's age. This is not an ageist thing it's just we have had a lot longer to kill our brain cells. Don't get down on people taking this piss about your age - they (and I) are jealous. you have got 23 years more biking than me left in you, and probably have more experience with bikes. The storm is my first bike - bought in september. So stand proud and tall and show ,em how to ride!
I find the Ducati 916-996(more expensive but inferior to Firestorm :P ) to probably be the most ignorant of riders, closely followed by cruiser riders who are least likely to acknowledge you.The state of the art sportsbike mob are getting to be like this too.
It certainly was different 20 odd years ago when biking was more of a brotherhood.
Personally i'll acknowledge any biker(unless its a scooter!!)and have never had an issue with age when it comes to biking.To be honest i'm more likely to be surprised to see a 50-60 year old riding a bike than a 20 year old(especially the ones who ride R1's etc)
Fair play to ya Squiffy :) I wish when I was 20 I could have afforded to run a litre bike,by the time you get to 40 you'll be a biking god!! 8)
paddy in my opinion dude age is nothing, i dont care how old or young a person is i will treat them the same! It may sound silly but thats how i would like, in an ideal world to be treated but cant win them all i guess!
mark, good points on the duke riders, they consider themselves elite, but i find oftern they dont ride as classy as their machines!
And as for me affording the vtr, well i dont, its on finance, i work my butt off and sell stuff on ebay just to keep her on the road, its taken me about 2 weeks to save up for my new tyres and i dont have a car licence, if plod found me i dont think they would be pleased with my "slicks" but all the effort, hassle and stuff is 100% worth it and ive not looked back! if im a biking god ever ill be pleased :-)
I'm 56. I am glad to know there are other people who don't think riding a sport bike is only for the "young" (Whatever "young" means..).
bloomin' 'eck.
I bought a Firestorm because at the age of 35 and having messed up a big part of my life I was diagnosed as entering the "mid-life crisis"
Looks like I should have bought an R1 damnit !!
Ok, one 2002 'Storm for sale.
Just kidding, I love the bike. It's glad to see such a wide age range too. It doesn't matter one bit how old the rider is, colour or sex. With a lid on we're all the same.
Long live the bike 2 bike salute too. A sign of respect that has been lost from so many other walks of life.
Over here it's the Sunday brigade that ignore other bikers. You can tell them from the rest, they're the ones that do 200kph on the straights, then pop out the training wheels for the bends.
Hmm, sounds like I'm ranting. I'll stop. I'm not old enough to rant like that :)
Rob.
