motor question??

I have a stupid question about the VTR1000 Motor. If you look at the front of the bike directly through the forks at the motor. There is a silver piece that looks like it may be a breather or something, but i am unsure. I think that it is on the valve cover but i am unsure if that is the valve cover. The bike is the american version SuperHawk. But it seems that alot of extra motor noise comes from that little peice, and i was wondering if there is supposed to be some type of plug in it or not.

do you mean that silver tube that runs vertically ?
