fitting cbr900 forks

Post by Steve6088 »

With cbr900 forks, yokes and what look to be stock cbr clip ons fitted, the steering lock is greatly reduced. The bars will hit the instrument panel. Can anybody suggest a way around this? Is it the same scenario with 929 and 954 forks? Could I try using different clip ons? I know lyodie does not have this problem as he uses renthal bars.

Thinking about it, the clipons might have been fitted below the top yoke. Could this have been the cause of this?

I have read through http://www.superhawkforum.com/forums/mo ... ide-23751/ but it does not mention this problem

Thanks for that lyodie. so you reckon 3" will be enough to completely clear the clocks? Is there a possibility of them hitting the fairing?

Those bars you linked to Lloydie are the ones Marty fitted on his. He wasn't overly complimentary about them as they still have movement in them even when clamped down tight.

I've just hd a look at the link and your right Kev. Bloody Dan Moto, I wouldn't buy them. Saying that though they are cheap, well cheapish for bars that have that amount of adjustability. Good bars will set you back £150 +

Now these are nice bars

One day when I can afford them. I've had my eye on them for a while. I think those Dan moto's have tried to copy their design, sort of.

These are the ones I bought for mine. Really helpful folk and willing to mark the package up to assist with it's delivery as cheap as possible, without troubling Her Majesties C&E.
Mine are the 50mm ones with 3.5 risers to suit my USD front end but they do them for the smaller size stock forks.

I would recommend them.

I can't remember the exact hight needed as I went with renthals .
If you measure from the bottom of the top yoke to the top of the clip on that should give you the measurement you need (on a standard bike)

looking at that photo I took, it dosnt look like the bars would have to come up very far to avoid the clocks. Probably an inch or so. Ill put the forks and clocks back in the frame later and take a measurment. Would have been the obvious thing to do in the first place

When I get some money in my paypal, I'll risk it and get a set of those dan motos I think. The others are nice but £150 is a bit steep

Looking at it, these will probably do the job. Are these aftermarket clipons? They are a lot taller than the ones I have.

They are standard clipons that fit under the top yoke .

Hi

I've got a set of forks from a 97 Blade on my road Storm.

To sort the lock-stop problem, I've used a short piece of 22mm copper pipe and a pair of Speedfit couplers.

These fit perfectly through the fairing/clock bracket, then grind off the fitting to the length required

Just make sure your cables & hoses are secured out of the way!
