Handguards. My latest winter preperation

Post by Image »

Tried hotgrips and wasn't impressed, just gave me sweaty palms and frozen knuckles. Fitted scrambler type handguards today (10 quid off ebay) and it really stops the wind chill. Should cure the frozen hand probs on motorways on sub-zero mornings. I'll remove them in spring.

They don't look too bad, being black with Yellow writing. Matches the bike.

I'm still thinking about heated gloves. Can't decide.....

*Edit

Is it just the photo or did you cut a piece out of the fairing to fit the crash bungs?

The hole was already there when I got the bike and nothing to do with the crash mushrooms I've fitted.

What put me off heated gloves was the wire kepot getting tangled and was dangerous at times. The ones that connect to a heated jacket would be better but that's an expensive route. The hand guards seem to work fine. Went along the motorway without gloves to test them and they do work well.

The handlebar grips are Pro Taper made of gel to keep warm and stop vibration and with a double edged rim at the inner edge to stop vibration running to the grips. They're also tapoered (hence the name) to stop hands slipping down sloping bars. Seem great so far and look good I think. Fast delivery for a foreign ebay sale as well (one week).

Keeping my heated grips, not perfect I know but at least it's some heat.

Got a link to the handguards?

I've bought some new bars to help with comfort - only problem is they will make my hands more exposed

Thanks. Looks like you just tie wrapped them on? Can't get much easier fitting than that

The hole was already there when I got the bike Carl and I reckon is something to do with previous crash bungs. The ones I fitted went on easily with no butchering. :D

Yes, the PO didn't have the brackets so fitted the DHM posts directly into the engine mountings.

Acerbis do a fitting kit that has a metal bracket; it runs across the bark busters and comes out of the end, mounting onto the end of the bar weight.
It'll stop the guard being blown back by the wind at high speed and applying the front brake all by itself.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
