bollocksed laptop?

Post by BigVeeGrin »

Here's the story.

Advent laptop, 5 yrs old, Vista, huffs and puffs a bit, downloaded a 650mb file for iPlayer, paused the programme, went to bed leaving it on, shut it down in the morning, now it won't boot up.

Lots of HD light flickering, then calms down, nothing appears on screen. Not a flicker. In the past I've hoiked the battery off, restarted as normal when improper shutdown is mentioned.

Question is - is it likely to be buggered?

Sounds like a display problem, with HDD activity it sounds like it's working and you should at least get the BIOS screen.

Try plugging an external monitor into the VGA port and see what happens.

There maybe a key combination to switch between external and built in display - like Fn and probably an outline of a tv screen?

no. this is how you do it.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
