Long vs short
No not on about air box stacks
Exhausts
I've got some very short mtc pro pipes (250mm) but I've been told this could lower the bhp of the bike.
Any one got dyno prints of this?
What's the gains of running longer pipes to short ones

Re: Long vs short
i think short cans are more about looks and sound rather than performance, i'm sure someone will be along shortly to give you the technical anwser,,,,

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: Long vs short
I don't know about that. It's amazing how just changing the brand of can can alter performance as well as sound. High quality after market cans don't even require re-jetting so performance must be altered. How length effects thing's I don't know, but when you look at the higher quality race cans they same pretty long.i think short cans are more about looks and sound rather than performanc

I do know by altering the cans will make a difference. With the aftermarket can you can also affect performance by adding or removing the DB killers. Having straight through may sound nice but the loss of BP (back pressure) will affect performance. At this stage you will need to look at rejetting especially if you go to K&N filters which I have removed & reverted to the OEM, I'm too tight to bother with rejetting
Incidently I do have that K&N filter if anybody is interested, only done 500 miles. £25 + P&P

Re: Long vs short
To much time on my hands at work (makes a change)
I ran full ark pipes then went to mtc gp pro pipes after
I know track day people run long cans (for noise reasons)
Got a mate with a fartblade and he was asking me
I told him short cans on inline four bikes don't sound that good
On the other hand my pipes sound 'kin great
told him to sell the blade and get a storm with more grunt then two pigs shagging

Re: Long vs short
The pipe length matters, but only because the whole system length matters, form the exhaust port to to tailpipe outlet is the critical length.
It's about exhaust pulses and scavenging.
If the exhaust is the right length it helps "suck" the gases out of the exhaust port, meaning that the cylinder empties more completely and quicker, and the engine has to do less work pumping the gas through.
So you end up with more power turned into rotary motion at the back wheel.
Will it make much difference?
Probably noticeable on a dyno, but not really noticeable riding it.
An inch or two in can length won't make a lot of difference, tbh, but fitting a six-inch long can is likely to upset it.
Look up "tuned length" for exhausts if you want to look into it a bit deeper.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
