o ring or x ring
o ring or x ring
as it says guys regarless of price whats the best and why? and what is the standard chain?
Re: o ring or x ring
X ring holds more of the assembly grease and creates less friction than an O ring therefore extending chain life. Thats the burb anyway. But got to say that modern X chains looked after last alot longer than the older O ring chains, used to be able to get around 20k out of an O ring but i've seen bikes getting close to 30k with X ring chains.

Re: o ring or x ring
cheers popcat and u can use either with standard sprockets?
Re: o ring or x ring
You can indeed
.
If you're replacing the chain though you may aswell replace the sprockets at the same time.
The last owner of mine had renthal aluminium sprockets... on a 1000cc sports bike.
mental. It had about 10 teeth missing.

Re: o ring or x ring
If the chain is the correct size for the sprockets ie 530 then it doesn't matter if it's O or X ring. If your changing though it's advised to get new sprockets as using a new chain on old sprockets will accelerate wear.

Re: o ring or x ring
if i was you i'd be getting a oem chain and sprockets, all the ebay jobbies ive used (past 2 chains/sprockets) have been tottaly shite and they wasnt cheap either £110+.
on my 600 bandit the chain was connected with a clip, that came off and the chain was hanging on by a thread when i got home! that bent the actual chain!
bought one recently for the firestorm and the front sprocket is about 1mm to thin so gives off a vibration! and it was virtualy impossible to mushroom the link over (using a proper chain splitter). rang the seller and he said use two hammers...
when i got an oem chain for my CBR is was soooo much easier to do, honda quality

Re: o ring or x ring
Those chain links IIRC are to be used on something like 400cc or less bikes with the clip as they are not strong enough for larger capacity bikes. That would have been dangerous and could have possibly snapped. It should have been riveted.on my 600 bandit the chain was connected with a clip

Re: o ring or x ring
how about a "A ring "
or a
ring .
i did read a review of o-ring x-ring and heavy duty chains and if the heavy duty was kept clean and oiled regular it lasted longer than the others .
