shock linkage

Post by jason2106 »

Hi all after some opinions here as sure this can't be right , I have stipped the storm down the last couple of days so the shocks going away for service but thought better check out the linkage fit grease nipples etc .however check out the pic
Image
now see the space on the left of both parts?? that equates to about 3-4 mm side to side play in the linkage ,cant be right can it? are there meant to be spacers in there?
On the plus side the bearing are nice and smooth
Oh nearly forgot how close should the bottom of the linkage come to the rear exhaust mine was only about 1mm away?

With that kind of play you should have experienced some odd feeling in the handling & I'm also suprised to hear that the bearings are still good. Check the pdf on the linkage but it looks like the previous owner may have used incorrect size bolts. In any case the whole unit will need splitting & new bolts ordering, I would also get new bearings at the same time.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

The long bolt has no spacers, the head of the bolt is circular and it pulls through the swingarm mount and pulls directly on the inner bearing sleeve and that should ensure there is no play on the key parts.
