what paint did benny use on his frame was it hammerite?

what paint will i need, primer, paint and gloss, or does hammerite have gloss in it etc

just looking at paint to sand down and repaint the subframe, the rust it looking a bit ming round the exhaust bolt area

yeh mate i used satin black hammerite.
gives a nice finish but it isnt fuel or oil proof.
bit of a pain in the butt when you over fill and it all peels off and blisters.
and you cant put a fuel proof lacquer over it either cos that strips it off too.
and its not uv resistant so its goes a grey blue over time.

served its purpose like - i just wanted to see if i liked it before i did it proper.

so tbh bud. use something else.

tho it will be for only a year till i get a better engine and then i will get it powder coated.
like you benny its manly to see if i like it .
but i will try to keep fuel away from it , thanks for the heads up

just looking to paint the subframe might try black i think, do you have to use primer with hammerite or just paint it straight on?

nah it goes straight on bud.
just make sure its proper degreased and rub any loose rust off etc

having done my spare rear subframe in hammerite satin black, i can honestly say i wouldn't spray the frame with it. sa benny/martin said, make sure you fully prep it, i found you had to lightly dust the paint on, otherwise it would run, then each coat took an age to dry, and its also very easy to miss a bit, with all the nooks and cranny's, if your frame is out then take it to the powder coaters, because after you have shelled out for a can of this and a can of that, it wouldn't be much more to get it done by the pro's
i plan on getting my frame.rear subframe and swingarm all done at the same time, so it all matches.
it'll be satin black or maybe a deep met cherry red....

i've got 3 spray cans of the hammerite
i did the top frame rail the other day , a light dust coat and left to dry overnight
then gave it a key the next day ready for one more light coat .

I hope it lasts next season .
As i plan on getting a better engine and maybe a frame for next winter fettle .
the sub frames are getting powder coated this winter so they will be ready to bolt on to the new setup .

i just don't think a silver frame will suit the new paint job that i'm getting done this week otherwise i would leave it the way it is .

i just think a black frame makes the storm look modern and it suits the bike. i might even get the wheels done satin black aswell....

I did like that red frame yamaha did other year on the R1 looked great with white plastics

When I painted the wheels on my first storm, I used Hammerite Special Metals Primer before actually spraying them with the finish colour. Don't know if it made things better or not, but the wheels went through several tyre changes and a fair few miles and they stayed nice.
Might be worth looking into.

( My wheels were back to bare metal in this case though, bare in mind. )

Get it powder coated, it doesn't cost much, find a local company and pay cash.
I got mine done for £20
