Had Problem recently with my storm cutting out. power just dies, but can restart after a few seconds
mainly happens when slowing down at junctions or roundabouts
and have to grab clutch in and press engine start
Cutting out
Re: Cutting out
Is your tickover set to low? does it die when it drops down to tickover? Mines set between 1.5-2k to stop this

Re: Cutting out
yes not sure how to adjust tickover
previous owner had K&N filter fitted and dyno done so not sure if that issue either

Re: Cutting out
To adjust the idle speed there is a Black knob on the front carb on the right hand side. If you look through the frame near the rad you should be able to see it. You can just get your hand in there while the bike is running and turn it either clockwise or anti-clockwise to increase/decrease idle speed. It's best to set the idle speed when the engine is fully warmed up. Idle speed should be at around 1200rpm

Re: Cutting out
There was a mod to help with this issue where you re-route the carb vent hoses. I can't seem to find the details of it though.

Re: Cutting out
That's the carb overflows your talking about. What happens under heavy braking the front carb can get flooded which cause the bike to cut out and momentarily run rough. It's the the hoses that run through the brackets in between the two carbs. These can be pulled out and left to hang loose rather than go through the hole in the bracket which is a bit of a tight bend/squeeze. It seems to only be a problem only under extreme (emergency stop) heavy braking that the problem arises.
On mine I don't have them hang loose but do pull them out the hole slightly so there is not as much of a restriction with the 90 degree bend poking them through the hole. It's something worth checking out. You will have to remove the airbox and then you will see them.

Re: Cutting out
I find that if the idle is so high then the bike is a pig to manoeuvre at low speeds without a lot of clutch work. It's also completely unecessary if the carbs are balanced etc. Mine happily ticks over at 900 rpm and never cuts out at junctions etc and hasn't in 12 years of ownership!Steve6088 wrote:Is your tickover set to low? does it die when it drops down to tickover? Raising the idle is just masking another problem IMHO
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

It basically comes down to the bike needing a good tune up
