Bike been standing ?? advice

Post by moblies »

For one reason and another by 04 model has been sat idle in the garage for nearly 9 months since new, its done hardly any mileage on the original mineral Oil, should I change it before riding it ? and the petrol has sat in the tank for 9 months. I have warmed it periodically and rotated the tyres etc

Yes, use new oil and filter.

If it starts and runs ok, then there's no need to change the petrol - it's not like it will be in the tank for long, is it?

Check that the brakes aren't binding, and it might be worth bleeding the brakes too.

The doom mongers would say that the oil could have absorbed water, but I think the worst of the worries would be due to running without riding, it's a good thing, but no substitute for riding. For the sake of a few quid, you should really change it. Be sure to stick to semi synth or mineral for the first few thousand miles, before switching to fully synth, to allow correct running in. The petrol has probably 'gone off' but I'm sure if you topped the tank up with Super it'll be fine. If for any reason you might have got moisture in it, then add a bottle of Motorex 'Power Plus' which combines with the water and makes it miscible with the petrol so it can be burned off and not clog stuff up. Apart from that, get out and give it some sh1t!

Good point about the brakes, too!
