I think Gunsons or someone make a trigger type thing on a lead for that purpose. Cheaper to use an old screwdriver though.

oh ffs!! Got it started using the screw driver trick. Let it run for a bit. Opened the throttle and it cut out. Now I can't start it at all.

I'll try again tomorrow 8)

The new rad guards look ok though :)

Think it might be where it ran out of fuel. Lets see what happens when the solenoid turns up.

Only one thing worse than having no bike; that's having a bike that can't be ridden.

Arrange that someone takes it away in the night, then get a running one with the insurance money.

(btw i have a trailer and aren't doing a lot next w/e..)

And to answer your question, starting it with a short across the solenoid will be fine; it's just duplicating what the button and solenoid would do if it was working.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

If I didn't have the DR-Z I'd be climbing up the walls, pulling my hair out etc.

hmm. If it's not the starter solenoid (which I am worried it might not be just that) then I'll have a chat with the dealer. If he is happy for me to get it fixed, I might take you up on that. How are you with sprag clutches? lol

Yeah, really pleased. The only thing I dont like it the silver stainless steel ties over the black edging and rad sides. Time to find the black paint

Just got it started again so I doubt its the sprag clucth. Phew!

It is struggling with fuel though. Starts fine with slight choke ticks over nicely. Then it just cuts out and wont start again.

Any suggested areas to check?

george, when the sprag clutch has gone they sound like a bag of crouton, sort of like a dry clutch ducati with cct failure!
especially when you press the starter.

the preferred mod btw is to fit the sprag off a bmw gs - if you need more details let me know.

tisnt that though bud. what is it doing exactly? are you sure you didnt pop a fuse trying to frig the solenoid?

check if theres a fuel filter.
check the fuel pump is primed proper and not airlocked.

try connecting the fuel pump directly to the battery and see if the fault goes away.
apparently they suffer with wiring faults and dodgy connections between the fuel pump and relay.
this could still be a starter sol issue.

check the killswitch and fuel pump relays
https://www.apriliayorkshire.co.uk/cata ... l%20system

and the sidestand switch connectors.

to bypass the sidestand switch bridge the black & brown wires.

seems this is a common fault
