ZXR 750 H1 1989

Post by Jazzscot »

Guy at the work says he has one of these sitting in his dads garage. It has no mot or tax and would need a wee bit of work. It's the 750 version.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of these bikes and could you give me a rough estimation of what I should be offering if I was to think about it for a winter project?

He says he has no idea what it's worth so I'm looking for bargaining info.

I'll try and get pics from him.

P.S before anyone says anything I know I know its not a storm but its surly got to be worth a look.

Be careful, I used have one, started to jump out of 2nd gear under load, not nice when you gear down to take bend and it jumps out into a false neutral, first time it happened to me I had to change my undies, found out that this was a common fault with them as they get older, gear selector, complete strip down, if you're a confident bike tinkerer then fine, otherwise think again, or buy it dirt cheap and use it as a project to learn on. Good bikes, front end brill in their day.

have you not changed them since then grandad

i had one as well the other year - got it off h3r3tic on here for a song lol - swapped it for a pair of blue flame cans :)
beltin bikes, very good handling.
you do realise how quick the storms are after riding the kwak though - at 80mph it sounds like a gp bike whie the firestorm is just twiddling its thumbs...

had just a bit of clutch slip on mine, cured by a good flush & oil change. no problems with gearchange apart from the selector arm ball joint snapped in the middle of a ride :/

if its a shed, get it and fit the front end to your storm. and brakes.
then break the rest.
get on http://www.redmonkey.com cliveyandrews from here is still a mod on there

They could be prone to camshaft problems. Poor build quality means they corrode easily and lots.

Why would you want to put an eighties front end on a firestorm :confused heavier, brakes no better, knackered internals after 23 years. much better to just sort the std forks.

ZXR750H1 had RWU forks not USD. first jap bikes with USD's were the GSXR's.

Great video, and the empty roads...my mate had one years ago and he was a bit of a wheely merchant but sold the bike coz the front end was either too heavy or possibility all the balance was to the front for handling.

this is what i just sold the storm for i admit its the 1992 j2 model but i love it but i must say you need to like going fast cause the one thing that lets these bikes down are the brakes.
i bought mine on ebay with full history with extras for £900.00 with tax and mot so if the bike needs work then i'd say about £500 but there not worth much unless kept original with sensible mods like better brakes etc but i'd say if you want a project then theres not much better

I had an H2 - rock hard suspension, but fantastic. First bike I got my knee down on, over 50k miles and the motor was still sound. Snap it up quick or I'll have it! Image

.....and yes, I still mod on RedMonkey.

I've been thinking about another 7R - but a recent test ride was a massive disappointment, it felt flat as a fart, no adrenaline rush whatsoever!
