Dutch Route Planning help needed
I'm off to Assen (again) this year....
Need some help with route planning.
Last year we did dover-calais & up to Amsterdam, long way but good trip.
This year we're doing Harwich - Hook, and then up to Amsterdam (staying their on Friday, then up to Assen Sat. morning)
Need some help plotting a decent route from the port in "The Hook", up to Amsterdam. We're staying in a street called Lindengracht in Amsterdam if that helps. (10 min walk from Dam Square)
Anyone been this way? What routes can be recommended?
Thanks.

Try a route I used to take many moons ago
Amsterdam head towards Hilversum then on to Apeldoorn, from apeldoorn to Deventer and almelo skirt the german border to Coevorden and on to emmen and assen.
Can't remember the actual road name but if you stay off the motorways and out of the towns it take you through some nice parts.
see if you can suss it out on a map.

Quickest way from the hook to Amsterdam is about 45miles
leave the hook and get onto the N220(maasdijk)
After about 5 miles get onto the N223(oranjesluisweg)
After about 10 miles get onto the A4/E30 direction Wateringen/Den Haag/Utrecht/Amsterdam
After 40odd miles you'll hit the Amsterdam ring.
Quickest way from Amsterdam to Assen.. 188km or 117miles..
You want to get out onto the Amsterdam ringroad A10/E35
Exit the A10/E35 at the "knooppunt Watergraafsmeer" and onto the A1/E231 direction Almere/Amersfoort
Exit the A1/E231 at "knooppunt Hoogvelaken" and onto the A28/E30/E232 direction Utrecht/Zwolle/Hoevelaken.
Stay on the A28/E232 at "knooppunt Hoogeveen" posted Hoogeveen/Assen/Groningen.
Keep going till you see the Assen Exit on the A28/E232, it's posted TT circuit.
Will see you there
I'm coming on my 2002 Firestorm from Gent in Belgium.
Hope it all helps, gissa shout if not.

Essex,
Where is the web address of the Dutch AA http://www.anwb.nl (no English option though).
Otherwise try http://www.michelin.com
You'll probably end up riding mostly on the motorways but it's the quick way to get there.
You'll have a blast - Last time I was there I was 16!! (That's 16 yrs again now
). Saw Randy Memola, Kevin Schwantz and co flying round the track on the 500cc 2-strokes... was amazing. Atmosphere will be brilliant!
Let me know if you need more help - I am dutch so would be able to give you some more pointers.
Mind the local police - there is no messing with them. Illegal cans which are too loud? You'll be stopped and will not be allowed to ride on. Option to replace the cans or pick up with a van!) However - there will be thousands of people there so if you behave you'll won't be pulled.

Bink is right about cans and the plod. On some stretches of the motorway the limit is 100kph. There are even fixed cameras along the central reservations.
In and around Assen they'll be like flies around a bucket of poo. Especially on the main aproach road to the track. It's an 80 limit there and they lurk behind the bridge. So watch it. I was there the other week and was flashed by oncoming bikes as I gassed it under the bridge.. Nothing in the post yet though (fingers crossed)

Thanks guys.... helped a lot...
I went last year so not an Assen virgin, but as above, took a much different route last year...
Had no probs with the plod last year, (was running the high levels), got the impression that they were quite relaxed, (was follwed by Mr plod on the main road between Amsterdam & Assen for about 5 miles) was as though it was such a big "Day Out" for the Dutch, that Plod was not worried unless you were being a pratt.
He ho, off now to study the map..... - Trebs. Will be staying in"Hotel Acacia", Lindengracht, any chance of simple direction into there from the ring road? ( i know... some people want everything
)
Ta...
Ps, had a quick look on Multimap.... found the N220 (comes straight out of port?, found the A4/E30, but cant see the n223.....

Essex,
The N223 is an "A road" that splits off the N220 before the N220 meets and becomes the A20/E25.
The N223 will take you past places called De Lier and Oostbuurt then meets the A4.
Essentially it cuts off a big corner of the trip, (5 miles as opposed to 14 miles). Shame it's not marked on multimap.
I could email you the map of that section is you want. let me know.
I'll see if I can look up the directions from the hotel too. Will get back to you on that one.
Rob.
btw, what bit of Essex you from? I'm a deported Romford man myself

Essex.
I sussed the Acacia -> Motorway.
Easy trip.
Turn right out of the hotel onto the Lindengracht
At 300 yrds turn left onto the Nieuwe Willemsstraat
At 90 yrds bear right onto the Korte Marnixstraat
keep going on that road, it'll change names to Haarlemmerplein and then Haarlemmer houttuinen and then changes to Nieuwe Westerdokstraat.
Keep going until you get to the 2nd canal bridge and turn left before you cross the bridge and onto the Droogbak.
keep going over the railway then do a right onto the S100, De Ruyterkade.
After about a mile the road name changes to Piet Heinkade, keep following it
You need to turn left onto the Piet Heintunnel approach roads, then through the tunnel.
As you exit the tunnel the road will change into the S114, It's a bit odd there, the S114 splits north, south and east. you want to keep going east. i.e. straight on
It's bound to be signposted from there A10/E35
Get on the A10 direction Utrecht/Amersfoort
Exit the A10/E35 at the "knooppunt Watergraafsmeer" and onto the A1/E231 direction Almere/Amersfoort .
We're back to the other route description I posted. Motorway all the way up to Assen.
Easy really
