Stange bonking from front end

Post by trebs »

Hi all,

I've got a 2002 'storm and noticed an occasional *bonk* from the front end.
It normally happens after a hard brake followed by acceleration.
It also does it at standstill when I lunge the bike forwards, brake and then pull back on the bars to extend the forks.

First thought was head bearings as it's not a brake caliper type of *bink* or rattle. Head bearings were fine, double checked by the dealer too.

Now, It's booked in for a service and some other warranty bits and he said he'll have a good look over, maybe drop the forks out and have a good look.

In the mean time, anyone any ideas? I'm guessing it's something inside the forks that's bottoming out, banging on the inside of the tube..

btw, I tried the lunge and pull on a brand new VTR in the dealers showroom, that had no such noises.

Cheers. Rob.

I have a similar problem with my mountain bike forks and it is the bushes inside the forks. They are of similar design after all...
