sh1t Fuel?

Post by seb421 »

Last night bike was running what felt like remarkably well and smooth at the speed limits on the commute as per,

Coming Home I'm running low on Juice so i stopped at Tesco's Chorley to fill up, a few mins of riding after i filled up and it felt like a sluggish unresponsive lump

I normally use either the Shell garage in Leyland or this other one in Adlington on the way to work, i use regular unleaded fuel when i fill up and don't notice any difference in the bikes running

Is it possible the fuel was just sh1t or water got into the tank's at all with all the flooding?

Mine don't like tesco fuel at all .
Asda is ok but bp fuel is good sh1t .
All the supermarket's sell cheep fuel but you are buying just that cheep fuel .
Bp and shell is the full fat stuff .

Fill up at tescos one week then bp the next you will feel the difference and you should get better mpg

Don't be fooled the fuel is the same, there are only two main refiners of fuel. The main difference are the controls that the supermarkets use compared to BP/ Shell, they don't check the water content regularly and let the tanks run lower, so you sometimes get crap and water in supermarket fuel.

You also find that supermarkets have smaller storage tank so they fill up more and disturb the sediments more regularly, and also no settling tanks.

+1
I'd also heard that the supermarkets specify slightly different specs but basically the fuel is the same from the same places.

I use Sainsbury's for the cars (for the Nectar points) and have never had any issues. The bikes tend to get filled up a variety of places and again, no difference. The only difference I have ever found is using V Max, though people are quick to say it can't make a difference, it does, but not one worth spending the extra pennies on.

I had a BMW R1200s last year and that has knock sensors so should run better on super unleaded, and it noticably did. But when i bought it they dealer told me not to put shell v power in as they keep getting bikes come back running badly on the stuff. I never tried it but used super in all other populay petrol stations and it ran great.
If i ran it on normal unleaded it was a bit less perky and a bit vibey, i used to run a mix of the two to save a bit of money :)

+1 I agree ,in that if I put that pricey shell stuff in I get more mpg

I was told by a delivery driver that all the different fuel brand tankers fill up at the same place but there is definitely a issue with quality.Cars and bikes I have run have only had problems when on Tesco petrol.Tesco have a fast turn over so it is not because it is stale.I know they demand a tight profit margin from their suppliers so I wonder if they are getting 'graded' old stock as a result. They are happy to sell us other second rate stuff because they get it cheap so why not petrol?

Running higher octane fuel (super unleaded and/or octane boosters) should only have a decent effect on high compression motors and with suitably advanced ignition, at least this will see the best results. But if your bike feels better with it at least you reduce the chance of detonation or knock.

I know a few who use v power and other equivelants and swear their bikes run better and smoother so there must something working :)

I use V Power and swear.

It's the price.

Tesco use a high percentage ...up to 10% ethanol content which is cheaper than proper fuel, Shell dont and thats why our bikes run better on V power, mine certainly does, but I must say it runs just as well on the normal Shell unleaded , for those that dont know the difference v power has an additive which keeps the fuel system clean etc, but this is also a teeny problem as its quite acidic and gives an increased wear to carb rubbers. Im convinced its the ethanol content in supermarket fuel, its happened too many times when im forced to fill up at Tezzers I pull away with a splutter with asociated tank farts and backfires. Also in my experience texaco fuel is top notch too.
