Post by darrenmartin »

 hi all (and soz if this is one of those questions thats been asked a thousand times) But now im competant at stripping the front end down ( just replaced ball with needle bearings for the head 8) ) is it worth me changing the fork oil as im sure they have the origional 12 year old stuff im em. is it a simple job :?: is it even worth doing if im not changing any of the internals :?: i had the forks off the other day too spray em Satin Black and turning them upside down it sounded like there was water in em 8O i know its not but the oil seems just so thin  Any help as always will be repaid with £50 notes in the post  Cheers guys from the owner of the Tango Wagon.

You will notice a real diffence by changing the oil, have a search and you will find which oil to use

You will be better off using linear springs rated for your weight rather than progressive, about £100 for a set of k-tech

maybe if you intend never carrying luggage or a pillion.
i have progressives front and rear and its perfect even 2 up :)
i got wirth prog fork springs on offer for 70 from wemoto
(hagons £80, hyperpro 116 but that includes oil, kteck about 100)

and a rear progressive spring on the standard shock is a beltin mod - handles superb.
£80 from ftr suspension.

also helps if you drill out the holes in the damping valves to 1.2-1.5mm
you will find the preload and damping adjusters actually work lol!
no more wallowing in bends and bottoming out under hard braking!

Went out and found the WP springs, there's no spacers with them, I can't remember if they came with any or if your suposed to use the original spacers. I think the length including spring and spacer is 400mm (please correct me if wrong) a quick measurement showed the WP's to be just over 300mm so would need a 100mm spacer, if thats the length of the std ones the just use them if not make some up, easy :D
