Micron cans - carb settings?

Post by droid »

Just bought a pair of Microns
Now I know I should have sussed this out before but... do I have to do any fiddling with the carbs? I've heard horror stories about burning out the valves if the jets aren't changed!

Cheers

Good to know, baz. I plan to get some cans, but don't want to mess with the carbs.
Anybody else out there with aftermarket exhaust w/o jet kit? Love to hear your results.
It's about the road, not about the chrome.

Yes I am running my bike with standard jetting and air filter with Scorpion high level race cans, the bike runs fine, no flat spots and the sparkplugs are the correct colour which means its not running to lean or rich for that matter,
Chris.

Thanks for the replies
I'll not faff with the carbs. Such is my mechanical ineptitude that I managed to drop the bike off the stand whilst lubing the chain. A real 'Oh sh1t' moment but no damage apart from a remodelled brake lever.
Squiffy, hope that makes you feel a bit better after your bin. At least you were riding the bugger!

I'm running Microns on my 'storm as well & haven't touched the jetting.
I'm running the stock filter as well & the bikes running great!

Don't worry unless you change the filter!

Just get a colourtune kit and tweak the mixtures yourself. You can also check the colour of the plugs but that is less accurate - if you are going to do it that way though you gotta ride around a bit and let the bike heat up, making sure the choke is completey shut :) Find a nice big hill and tear up it in whatever gear means you can almost hit the redline - while she's almost at the limit hit the kill switch and coast in - now you check the plugs... see, told you it was hassle!! You can do it with the bike sitting and engine running, but because she's not under load it'll be less accurate. If you do get a colourtune make sure you set your idle speed to below 1000rpm, around 8/900 should do otherwise you won't get a change in the flame colour at all, from mixture screw open to closed.
Out of my way or I'll eat the lot of ye!!
