Then you wait until Spring and sell the now-std bike for £1800.
make sure you double bag the std parts though
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
hi kenzo, a good right up there, sorry the b-stard wont give you the deposit back, as long as the listing cost is covered why should he keep the deposit...
especially as the bike was not described properly, the engines cases didn't get swapped to the bronze clolur straight away. not sure about the rev counter tho, i've got the newer clocks from a 53 plate and that has a white rev counter.
glad to hear you now happy with your new bike tho.....
Welcome to the forum. I think he out of order not returning the deposit. Was the listing marked as a non refundable deposit? You should get that back through the small claims courts if it's not. Maybe a well written letter from a solicitor will do the trick.
Enjoy the new Storm and there are plenty on members here for good information, advice and a bit of banter and piss taking. Have a good read through the workshop knowlagebase
Kenzo, from looking at later VTR's I think the F2 had the black engine cases and white dial the F3 had the bronze engine cases and a matching black clock faces on rev & speedo. As to refusing to return your deposit, if the vehicle was not as described (and from your description it is far from that!) then he has no right to retain your cash. Getting it back is the difficult thing, but you can have a warm glow knowing that you are righteous!!!! Good luck.
Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero F3, 954 USD front, K Tech springs, Braced swinger, Ohlins shock, Six spoke Mockesini wheels, Harris rearsets, QaT, Flywheel diet!, A&L stacks, stick coils, K&N, FP Ti jets, Mori pipe's [colour]
The seller has probably been knocked back a lot on the bike and is frustrated, but he cannot keep you're deposit, I would push for it back, even threatning trading standards and court.
I was going to buy a CBR600 a few years ago, paid the deposit, one day before delivery I cancelled it as I found out the bike was an import and that Honda didnt even have a record of the bike, the trader gave me back the money and said I can sell this easy, I saw it go for £1400 in the end I was going to pay £2200 but the bike was there on Ebay for atleast three months.
Thank you everyone for your balanced and thoughtful responses. It seems that there are very few private bikes available as people seem to trade them in or they are picked up quickly by traders scouring the internet. This is OK if the traders are going to provide a professional serviceb but it looks like there is a burgeoning of crinkly sheds, with bikes becoming just a commodity. I have bought bikes fro all sorts of people over the years but never, interestingly, from a main dealer, and have never felt "turned over" until now. Maybe its a despaerate economic situation but that will change but memories wont.
Just to be fair to the seller he begrudgingly returned my deposit, but not until I suggested we go to the Small Claims Court...
Riding the VTR is great, I am enjoying it immensley. I worry, however, about how to stop corrosion taking hold as I want to ride it despite the weather. The handbook suggests that washing down with cold water is all that is required but I I doubt that is all that is required. Lathering the bike in Duck Oil would probably help but it would look a wretched sight. The forks and wheels are prime suspects in my experience.
ACF50 is your friend.
Stops any corrosion that is already there and forms a film that stops any further corrosion starting.
Check it out on the web. good enough for aircraft, good enough for the bike.

Another excellent product is GT85, the red one is best for what you want to use it for, just spray it on and that's it. http://www.gt85.co.uk/
