Re: Honda hornet 900
I think it was one of the first Z1000s ( the new Z1000 ) it was in Orange, he done a quick air box mod on it as well, it was running stupid amounts of power at the back wheel, something like 120+ at the dyno. The Hornet 900 was something like 95 BHP at the back wheel.alternative_vtr wrote:Always wondered what Z1000's are like? They're quick then obviouslywhich model was it?
I found the 600 Hornet to be a better bike overall than the 900, I even know people who sold the 900 and went back to the 600.
Re: Honda hornet 900
I fanced a change and sold my vtr and brought a 900 hornet as soon as filex rode off on my vtr i regretted it. Luckly i've got a vtr project so contented sort of. Been playing with the hornet but i think it will be up for sale very soon might get a cbr1100 or another vtr. They are easy to ride very neutral but not the kick up the ass that i was after.

The 900 hornet was a bit of a screw up, you don't gain anything over the 600 as the chassis/frame or whatever can't handle the power that the engine can provide. However, if you stick the 900 engine into an old 600 chassis...geoff996 wrote:I fanced a change and sold my vtr and brought a 900 hornet as soon as filex rode off on my vtr i regretted it. Re: Honda hornet 900
To be honest with you when I got the Hornet dyno tested, even the tester was taken a back at how much of the original blade power and aceleration had been taken away, when I saw the results, I knew it was a gutless as it had felt when riding the bike, you expect big things and get nothing but a feeling of being short changed from the whole experience, the CB1000 which took over apparently is a bit of a let down to compared to its donor bike.Virt wrote:The 900 hornet was a bit of a screw up, you don't gain anything over the 600 as the chassis/frame or whatever can't handle the power that the engine can provide. This also leads me to realise that Honda do not know how to make a street bike/factory fighter, over the likes of Kawasaki, Aprillia and Triumph, who know how to make good street bike.
Both run on a mono back bone frame, from which they both get the name Hornet from, I have heard of this being done, but you will need to do major work on suspension and frame to get the bike up to the job of handling a Full blown fireblade engine,

I've been thinking about putting cbr918 cams in and using cbr929 injectors to unleash some fireblade power but i'm i wasting me time if i'm not fully happy with it ????????????

Re: Honda hornet 900
My mate got chased and pulled twice doing 130mph, lucky for him it was early hours of the morning and it was met police chasing him into a different area, this was on his Z1000, I wouldnt discount street bike being slower than race bikes, it depends which one you get, yes they will start falling behind at some point though but not at 100mph.geoff996 wrote:I like to be different think of the look on a race reps facewhen you keep up whith them up to 100 might get a little bit difficult after that
The main naked bikes to go for are.
Triumph speed triple
Kawasaki Z1000
Aprillia touno.
Not rode a B king so I couldnt say wether this is a good bike or not.
