Northwich Thundersprint.
Northwich Thundersprint.
Read in MCN this week that the Thundersprint is relocating this year to the Anglesey race circuit. Has there been any discussion about the reasoning for this in local press at all? Everything I have ever seen printed about the Northwich event has been very positive so I just wondered if it was local pressure or had the event just outgrown the venue.

Re: Northwich Thundersprint.
Well after a little research it seems that Frank Melling had a difference of opinion with the local council. Shame because the event will have a very different vibe at the new location.

Re: Northwich Thundersprint.
also its not a free event this year,
tbh i think it will make it better in the long run. the northwich event was a bit sh1t tbh.
at least at anglesey there will be a proper track and better facilities
everyone's being a bit negative about it but i personally think it will be better.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Re: Northwich Thundersprint.
each to there own view m8 but putting this event on a proper track is whats going to kill the thundersprint off,u prob read my view on nwb but what i didnt say was that melling let the council kno he was moving the event by email on the day they were waiting for him to attend a meeting to let him kno how much money was put aside,to see this event on a track is pointless imo may aswell go watch a track day for freebenny hedges wrote:also its not a free event this year,

Watching the review of the 2012 event it was quite sad, with the benefit of hindsight, to hear the enthusiasm of the locals and the councillors for the Northwich event.
I have never been but the whole point of the event seemed to be the closeness to the racing and the competitors, along with the locality indulging the bikes for a spin around the local area. All the positives from the original seem to have been removed. Nothing to say the new event won't be successful in it's own right, but not as low key and approachable.

Re: Northwich Thundersprint.
As far as I'm concerned any event that involves letting race bikes hoof it around a town centre is a good thing. I remember a few years ago when the supermoto lads were trying to get a town centre race arranged (on the Wirral I think?) and the council backed out over safety concerns. It would have been great. They run events like that all the time in many countries but we always come up against some clown in a hi-viz vest with a clipboard saying why you can't do it.
Events like that, good or bad, are a dying breed

Re: Northwich Thundersprint.
The thing is it was only 15yrs old so it started when H&S was already on the rise.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
