Bike won't start

Post by Virt »

I bet you're all loving how my IL4 is now constantly breaking.

Last night the headlights stopped working, in the dark on a country road, so I got the bike home and replace the fuse ASAP. However now it won't start, the neutral light doesn't show up despite the bike wheeling freely either. We've checked the fuses and they're all fine too... Any idea of possibilities?

Also, when I press the ignition button it doesn't even try to spark or turn over. Nothing happens at all

The battery will be low from not charging likely due to R.R failure - so while lights can work there's not enough juice for the starter to turn over. Have you measured the battery's charge?

Also check the neutral switch ;-) and replace if necessary.

Description:
Don't put up with the hit or miss scenario of a faulty or failed Neutral indicator Switch, it can be irritating at best, or when in a busy city environment, a dangerous distraction!
They are not hard to fit, and you will be glad you did, when that comforting green light comes on telling you for sure that you are in Neutral and can release the clutch!

Okay, suggested that to my dad but he's not convinced.. I'm stripping the bike and looking tomorrow :P Cause the bike worked fine yesterday, it's only when we replaced the fuse for the headlights it stopped working. And we haven't dislodged or touched the other fuses

Maybe a loose/broken electrical connection on the fuse box area then. Give it a wiggle down there  to see if you can start the bike. Maybe one of you wiggle while the other attempts to start the bike.

What colour are the buses around your way then. London buses are the slowest, they are painted Red.

Buses here are blue and red, I'm sure they're worse than London buses

Found out the problem with the bike, safety system is f*cked.

It will start, it just needs to have the sidestand up and the clutch in, regardless of gear.. Not too much of a problem it turns out, as we checked all the fuses and they were fine.. Oh well, it's good practice. I seem to recall needing the clutch in for the firestorm

Does the neutral light come on?

Nope. But it was moving freely when I was moving it out of the shed. We tried it in all the gears, same result. Gonna replace the neutral light at some point in the near future too though, as it may have blown. But even so, safety system is a pain. Dunno how to fix it and it's not a huge concern anyway
