Insurance want how much?!

Post by Virt »

So randomly quoting myself on my storm again to make sure the prices haven't changed too much to insure with 1 years no claims for October.. Cheeky buggers have raised it by £1600 for fully comp. It's now £2200 instead of £621 !!! :( And £621 was the day before I bought the bike.. Sod's law, eh? Tpft it is then, I guess

did you do it with 1 insurer or on a price comparison site? ?

What are you paying now for the restricted 600? Is it worth lining the pockets of the insurance companies to ride a hamstring VTR. Do insurers offer for bikes the same tracker telematic tech for cars that could possibly bring the premium down?

Currently on £675 tpft. However the VTR will cost £475 tpft in October, but I was originally planning to go fully comp as that's how I originally received the quote.. Compared to my 600 in october, it will be about £100 a year cheaper to insure the VTR providing I do go tpft though.. Which makes no sense at all :D Don't really need fully comp though I suspect. I don't intend to crash

Even if you do total it the excess will kill you, maybe end up with 58p when they have done their sums, just hope its someone elses fault with 20 witnesses. My m8 who is 18 just pased his test on a zx6r 2009, got insurance for £900 FC with red star, £350 excess...shop around a bit.
She told me she was 16.

:eek2 Good point made about the excess.

Compare the meercat.com  Third Party, TPFT or fully comp, it don't matter really as they screw you over either way. Just get what's cheapest and covers you legally. But you will be surprised sometimes fully comp works out cheaper than TPFT.

Shop around and it also worth ringing around as not all the insurers advertise on price comparison sites.

As people have said ring some companies. Another way is to play them off against each other, ring one and tell them you could get it cheaper but they have been recommended to you, its a business at the end of the day and they want your money and if that means under cutting someone else then they will. If your paying that for a storm and they are bloody good for a litre bike on insurance, then imagaine how much you would pay for my Fireblade.

I think it's time to go down the route of bog basic insurance to get you on the road coz the b8stard won't pay out even if you have a non standard sticker never mind cans, heated grips etc. Maybe not for you lads who commute in the city.

Thanks for the tips everyone :) I will start looking more in depth around August as it's too early to get a guaranteed and set in stone quite right now, obviously. Just trying to get a rough idea of how much it's gonna screw me over

The main thing that worries me is that it's not MCE that have the top quote anymore... And I wanted them because they wouldn't triple the price when I bring up the ohlins :S and they don't change the price at all on how many miles you do :P oh well. Fingers crossed, I'm sure I'll find a way

I don't think there is such a thing as top of the list anymore. I think insurance companies are getting more and more like energy companies these days, and it does no harm to swap them around every year just to get a good deal.

Regarding Insurance companies I heard on the news the other day that the Police are selling detail's on to insurance companies when they attend a road incident. The insurance companies then pass both parties details on to a no win no fee type of firm. So you end up with the same company fighting a no win no fee for both parties. How corrupt is that. The whole industry stinks.

This Telegraph article is saying the police are selling direct to the no win no fees.

And this is why insurance is a scam and cost so much money.
