I am building up a vtr for a race series where there are power/weight rules. Forgetting everything else, how much extra horsepower do you get? I appreciate most people would know the difference between standard and cams plus filter plus exhaust as opposed to cams alone.
I suspect about 7 horsepower, with cams alone, 15 with cams/exhaust/filter.

Here's a couple of threads for ya

http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 12#p236012 You've dyno'd your bike with 107 horsey burgers - Have you got a scan of the resulting curves. Seems not much as with freer cans, jetting and K&N I've got 105. However the chart will show if you've gained, say more midrange, than standard in comparison. > http://f.cl.ly/items/3a0V2c0V2G3s3M171S3V/dyno.gif

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Is it... http://www.thunderbike.org.uk/index.php ...?
If so we have a sometime visitor to these here fine pages by the name of Dave Wass who rides a storm in the series, IIRC due to the HP/weight rules your better off chasing torque rather than outright HP.
His team web page not been updated for a bit tho... http://www.1771racing.co.uk/
Have fun & let us all know when & where you are racing...

Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...
Re: How much power from a set of moriwaki stage 1 cams
As you have alluded, it would depend on the rest of your set-up. The purpose of more aggressive cams is to allow the engine to breathe better so any other mods which also allow this will obviously optimize the results of the cams. I would imagine that your estimate of 7 hp is pretty close. FWIW, going from Yoshi Stage 1 cams back to stock netted me a 9 hp and 2 lb-ft loss (on dyno). However, as one would expect, power came on earlier with the stock cams, the more rapid drop in the torque curve past peak (which gets multiplied due to elevated engine speed) causing the (significant) drop.
Hope this helps.
Of course, I have a set of (used) Mori Stage 1s which will be going in at some point but I imagine you'll have everything sorted well before then....

Re: How much power from a set of moriwaki stage 1 cams
thanks everyone,
i dynoed it on the BMCRC dyno today and i am a little over 105hp, so i shall put some baffles in the end cans, run it on standard unleaded and that should just get me below 105hp. i suspect the engine's a bit worn, but no point doing much about it. i have managed to get the weight down to just over the limit, with a standard road chain, standard faring mounts, and a standard battery. the torque curve seems pretty flat - max torque 70 ft/lb at 7000rpm, with 65ft/lb at 6000rpm and 63ft/lb at the peak power of 106hp at 8500rpm. i have a penske shock and the forks are off to revolution racing - i shall try that rather than a gsxr front end. i am nothing more than a mediocre racer, but it will see how my vtr gets on.

A fork brace does wonders for front end rigidity (seeing as how Roger will address the calibration issue) for relatively little cost....
