One Week

Post by oldbikeman »

Hello
This last week I have been waiting for a genuine C&S kit to turn up and I have used my sons R1 as I get withdrawal. Nice power rush for about an hour and then I missed my twin .It also took longer to clean .I've ridden the Storm without taking it for granted longer than any big four I've had even though I thought it a bit flat to start with. It's also the first stock C&S I've ever took in preference over best DID stuff.I rate the stock RK .
I am surprised that there is folk trying to get more power out of one of these ,I think they miss the point.

Aye, great bikes ain't they? My c&s are original @ 24000 mile but the front sprocket is starting to curl. Should last this season though. If I decide to fit another make of chain I will still fit a genuine Honda front sprocket as from past experience others chatter on the splines.

thats a great way to measure the effect the Storm has on you.........how much you want it back after an extended trial of a different bike

I think the "extended" bit is important, as anything new will be fun for a while....... but like dating a fit bird with an annoying laugh, you soon realise its the total package that important!

  i dunno, i'd date a fit bird with an annoying laugh. In fact I'd lower my standards considerably atm and date any bird whether laughing in any manner or not.

I have a 09 cbr600 which I bought for Cadwell in the shed which is faster generally but not over hills or into strong winds.I would say the Storms power is about the same as a 92 Blade once it's hit 6k which is amazing for a twin and a lot more satisfying. The standard C&S is the only bike where I fitted a new front sprocket because the chain is still too good to replace. This I pasted from a big seller of chain which once I would have agreed with but for obvious reasons is bull:-

The Truth about Motorcycle Chains
Did you know that most bikes that are over 5 Years old regardless of its size that has a O.E.M supplied O-Ring Chain (made by D.I.D or RK) has less than 8,300lbs Tensile Strength, but you can’t find this chain listed because these chains are no longer made in a “Retail Boxed” version.....but are only supplied to the Motorcycle Companies to be sold as Genuine HONDA or KAWASAKI Parts Only!!! However. in most cases you’ll never see the Tensile Strength on the OEM supplied models, because the suppliers (RK & D.I.D) don’t want you to know what it is!

Why would OEM deliberately fit crap chain to their bikes? ,After 30 years of being daft enough to buy the dearest DID chain available I can say non of it lasted as good as this standard RK one. Most DID chain stretches like cheese and has to adjusted all the time and after market sprockets are mostly off centre and run with bad tight spots.I think £135 is not bad straight from Honda.

That interesting what you say about the tensile strengh. OM parts generally always last longer. Is that £135 just for the chain or does that include sprockets as well. If that's with sprockets then it's a bargain. It's a shame they don't have sprockets of various sizes or at least one tooth more or less either way on front and rear's. I think if they did a lot more people would buy them.
