Re: Shame
there is a petition to get the law on using mobiles while driving changed, plus I'm keeping an eye out on the force to see what happens about the lying, even if something like a freedom of information request is made. Makes me v cross all this
here's the link https://submissions.epetitions.direct.g ... ions/46144. It says:
Use of personal communication devices such as iPads, laptops, PDA’s, e readers, phones and other mobile devices whilst driving is likely to distract a drivers observation skills, and concentration. The use of mobile devices whilst at the wheel at the present moment in time is seen by many as a chance worth taking as the penalties if convicted are no longer seen as a deterrent by many
If a drivers concentration is impaired when using these devices it is no different to their concentration being impaired through drink or drugs so the punishments should be just the same
We therefore ask the government to carry out the following as a matter of urgency
1 Make the using of these mobile devices whilst driving a criminal offence
2 Raise punishments if convicted of using these devices whilst driving to those of driving under the influence of drink / drugs
3 Mount a robust national campaign to make it socially unacceptable to use a mobile device when driving

Re: Shame
Complained to the CPS or whatever and signed the petition. Only has like 7 signatures though including mine? Might have to spam everyone with it on Facebook

Re: Shame
I would rather people just learnt to drive and where able to multitask without being distracted. If they put more of their processing power into driving while on the phone rather than the majority of the processing power and concentration into the phone while driving, it would not be so bad. Just use some intelligence and use it where appropriate. There's nothing wrong with being on the phone when in traffic jams. But quite the opposite when doing 90mph down the motorway. Either that or if you not capable of multitasking then use your own discretion and pull over to use it.
The problem is where do you draw the line. Yes mobile phone seriously distract some people, but not all. I have seen people on a mobile phone and it's made no difference to their driving and I have seen other where they are seriously affected and lane wandering and all sorts. I used to quite happily skin up while driving in slow moving traffic without swerving into bikers or bumping into the car in front. If they clamp down on mobiles more than they do now, then next it will be don't play with your sat nav or stereo, then it will be don't talk to your passenger as that's distracting. Oh did I mention smoking
I would rather that if a driver/biker killed someone or was involved in a serious accident being on a mobile, playing with stereo, sat nav or whatever contributed to the accident, then make the punishments more severe and enforce it. Maybe people will think twice then before playing with the sat nav, shouting at the uncontrollable kids on the back seat or picking up the phone.
Talking about sat navs, I think that is far worse than being on the phone. Putting details into a sat nav is like texting and you have to take your eyes off the road to look at it. Also if you having to put details into a sat nav then one is lost and does not know the roads. At least with a mobile you can hold it to your ear and still have an eye on the road.
Anything and everything can be a distraction.

Re: Shame
My mother don't, she gets it to re route and stuff when hitting traffic. I'm always complaining about her driving. She's getting worse as she gets older. When I get in a car with her it makes me realise why insurance goes up when you become a pensioner.
But you missing the point. Everything is a distraction. I have seen many times a driver turning their head around to the back seat with the screaming kids in a car. Maybe they need to introduce parenting skills as well.
I can just hear it now "bring you kids up this way or your braking the law and we gonna fine you for it"
Actually half the people on the road should not have a license to begin with as they just don't have the natural driving ability which does not help. Some people don't even no the difference between left and right. Just take their license away. They can start in the east end of London.
They should make the driving test much more challenging. FFS they don't even take them on motorways. What sort of test is that. They are making it more difficult for bikers, why not the cars. Cars kill more than bikers. Bikers mainly kill themselves a car is far more dangerous to others.

Oh okay, my satnav automatically reroutes if I go off course so I don't bother. But I guess some people still rely on older satnavs obviously. Although I'd have to take my gloves off to do anything, silly iPhone screens.
True, I suppose it stems from the fact people now see driving as a right more than as the privilege that it is. I have friends who have crashed within a week of passing their driving test because they think that they're amazing at it and because they can't have their license removed. Wrong on both counts.. The way driving or riding is viewed needs to be hugely changed, most people think that passing makes them a good driver so they can do what they want. They fail to understand that it means they meet the minimum required standard.
I don't agree with changing the driving test to be honest.. I just think that car/bike licenses should be 1 step above a provisional and you need both to get a full license that will allow you a car over say 1 litre or a bike over 250cc. That way you understand how both vehicles behave on the road, and you have the increases road awareness that bikers usually (not always) possess

Re: Shame
I agree with the sprog
All car drivers need to spend a year on a bike so they learn what is like to be vulnerable and understand about grip and observation of hazards.
And they can't text with gloves on!

Re: Shame
See the thing that really pisses me off is not the fact that she was on a phone, but the injustice off it. One, she killed someone so therefore she should have not been on the phone if she was incapable of prioritising more of her brain power to watching the road while on the phone. And two it's one rule for them and another for us.
And yes I defo agree. I personally think that all drivers should spend at least 12 to 24 months constant, not 6 months one summer and another 6 next summer, 1 to 2 whole years in all weathers on a bike before getting a car license. This would give them more observation skills and all sorts. It will also cut down on the numbers of drivers.

Re: Shame
What annoys me the most is how she lied and changed her story multiple times. I swear if a standard person did that it would be obstruction of justice or something? Any excuse they could find to punish for it.
And getting someone who doesn't want to be a biker to ride in all weather conditions is unlikely, considering quite a lot of bikers don't do all weather riding even if they love bikes and live for them
