They are not true bikers. They are toy bikers, a Summertime toy to ride on. Give them a bit of rain and they will probably fall off.

I guess.. I don't see what's wrong with riding in the rain, it's way better than riding in the cold  I actually kinda like it

the guy across the road from me has only ever rode his bike in the summer and it showed with his riding .
his vfr didn't look to good the other week on back of a trailer after he dropped it on snake pass .
the rubble is he never rode it enough to gain the experience wet or dry .

their would need to be some sort of tracker fitted to the bike to record the time used and conditions it was used it without that it would be pointless like you say that will only ride it in summer .

None whatsoever and it has always been thus.
The idea/suggestion that all drivers should ride bikes for a period of time before stepping up to cars has circulated for as many years as I can remember (so 1 then!!!!) and has never been acted on as the majority of the voting public hate bikes and couldn't bear the thought of their offspring doing anything with a motorised two wheeler.

But if it did, by some bloody miracle, pass legislation then they would be more careful drivers as their precious little rascals would be on a bike. So they'd be on the look out for bikes even more just in case out of worry and whatnot.. I reckon the idea would work, but like you said "the majority of the voting public hate bikes".. Why hate an inanimate object? :(

Totally agree with you mate, I have never understood it. However I have spoken to loads of folk, male & female, who have been so indoctrinated with the evils of Motorcycles that they border on hatred toward them and the individuals who use them.
Any mention of bikes in the news will inevitably have a negative spin I.E. Biker gang rob Jewellers, where some thieving scrotes have used a bike as a tool to leave the area. It is rarely the same when a car/van/lorry is utilised. I guess Car Gang doesn't have the same repugnant reaction with joe public

I guess so! It's unfortunate. Different people have different reasons though, the girlfriend is an avid hater of bikes (how I convinced her it's appropriate for me to own two I will never know!!! ) but that's purely on the fact that more often than not they're usually fairly loud and childhood trauma relating to them.. Which is fair enough, but the people who make all these assumptions on things like biker gangs, as you said, are just being silly. I know someone who hates bikes purely for the fact that you see all the signs on the country roads saying "Think Bike!" and there are never any signs saying "Think Car!".. People will find stupid reasons if they want to, just gotta ride sensibly and safely and convince them over a long period of time if possible

That's a very long time :biggrin

That's very prudent of you Kev. Not only is it the gang reputation like the Harley mob, drug culture etc but most parents fear their kids crashing, breaking bones or dying. Bikes do have a bad rep. Now this could be reversed if the car tests where reviewed to make them ride a bike first. So that would be an added bonus. It's good all round.

As much as I agree with that, I actually see a flaw in it now. Surely due to power:weight ratio's and stuff surely it should be stepping up to a bike from a car? :( In which case the entire plan would fail

I was talking about this idea for years as an ideal situation in a perfect world, unfortunately It seems very unlikely, unless our countries experience economical situation that will force most people to ride bikes like in south east Asia, I don't think that will pass any legislation. We are a minority... I think there is definitely a need to put pressure on and insert allot more awareness in car training and tougher punishments to drivers who allegedly didn't see the bike they hit. realistically that would be working a little more in our favor.

making people ride bikes before getting a car licence might work in a small number of cases and i think overall is a good idea
trouble is it is,nt ever going to happen .

also real tossers like the woman we,re talking about are probably un-educatable , they dont care and until something awful happens they believe it wont ever happen to them so they carry on texting, applying makeup or whatever.

and as for riding in crap weather if it makes you feel like a proper biker your welcome to it . i spend enough time stringing telecoms cables up in the snow/rain/wind/hail/ etc to get freezing cold/wet in my spare time. i also like going round corners as nippy as poss and when the roads are wet and slippery this is compromised so i dont bother. years ago before i had a car i used my bike all year round and cant say it made me feel much better about biking .

roll on spring and some proper (dry/warm) biking weather
:cool2
