Exhaust wrap

Post by playerone »

Just how much less heat does the exhaust pipes give off if you wrap them? Looking at ways to reduce link pipe heat and/or use heat shield for another little project

Good question, I'd like to know the answer to that too. I think it's one for our friends over the pond to answer as they have more experience with wrapping pipes.

i done my pipes last year i would say its down about 25% down on the temp of course this is a rough guess. i could mesure the temp if you want if you want to compare

So a fair reduction then, enough to stop fairing lowers melting and keep a bit of heat off the rear shock linkage. I think the best thing is it covers up rusty looking pipes as well.

Nice one.

I'm planning on running a 2-1-2 exhaust with the cans coming through pillion seat so not sure if 25% reduction would be enough, might have to look at some sort of heatshield as well

i done my down pipe because i was fed up with painting them and i just wanted to have a go at it  over the winter they aint done to bad as long as you scrub with a stiff brush the other down side is they hold the damp so sometimes you pull up to a set of lights you get a ploom of steam driffting through the yoaks aswell as the thought that the down pipe is rotten and you cant see it :shifty: but i dont give a sh*t to be honest they were never gonna last forever ha ha

You can get a silicone coating to spray over the wrap to protect it.
