Brilliant to see the old cars and advertising on the shops. How did he manage to rev the engine whilst indicating right (to an empty road!).
Love the riding kit, my Dad used to ride in that sort of kit. Bit of a change to today's gear. I know the technology of the kit has followed the development of the bikes but sometimes I hark back to simpler times. Usually just before I wet myself!!!!
Good find Wicky. Here's a challenge for you, can you find pictures of the copper that did the Highway code shot's for the early 70's version? I used to work with the guy in later life.

I found funny the slowing down signal (who does that now if ever??) and the L sign on the headlight - Did they ever ride in the dark in the good old days??
In my yoof I had the thick wooly white socks poking out the top of my boots rocker style
This chap?

I wonder if drink-driving, set-belt & helmet laws and vehicle design are responsible for cutting down fatalities.Despite the massive increase in traffic since then, almost four times as many people died in road accidents in the UK in 1972 as in 2012.

think you're right there Wicky about key causes of accident reduction
always remember my dad had one of these, replete with side flaps, for about twenty years
and some heavy glass goggles

You are an Interweb legend sir.
That's the boy, Eric the Fish. He was about 55 odd when I worked with him but that was his main claim to fame.
I never did the white socks over high leather boot thing, but I did start with an open face titfer and goggles. A Kangol if I remember right. Just to get a bit of nostalgia the other day I spent £4.10 on a copy of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics to get hold of the free gift which came with it. A 1975 copy of The Motorcycle weekly, valued at 10p in it's time. Really interesting reading through all the old ad's and reviews of bikes like the GL1000, CB400F and the CB500T. Makes you realise how many of the old dealerships have gone down the tubes.

Copper looks like a young Martin Clunes...

That's like my mum's old C50 helmet and how I first got to ride bikes by having the job of of riding it to the lockup garage a couple of hundred yards down the road, until I went further afield round the block and the helmet blew off as the ear flaps caught the headwind as I hadn't done the strap up, so I looked round in a fluster and promptly crashed.

I enjoyed that. I was half expecting George and Mildred to come around the corner. I wish the roads where that clear these days. The shop adverts where cool as well. Corona, Players etc, and how big where the lights on the street lighting in them days.

I have had to use that a few times on the approach to one particular side road right at the beginning of the A3. With cars right on your tail and just about to put their foot down, a little signal just lets them know. Sometimes and indicator is not enough.I found funny the slowing down signal (who does that now if ever??)

Very good find..
I personally think that Tom's friend is actually Kev, well the bit at the start anyway, that tricycle is definitely blue !
Strange how some of the advice is against what we consider good practice these days. They seemed very keen on riding along in the gutter ! His over take of the furniture van was a bit on the dodgy side, as he came from the left to virtually straight into the over take, meanwhile Mr Chumly Warner was talking about a good view, just as a car came the other way.
Also he failed to stop for the pedestrian on the crossing. Old girl with a stick right at the edge of the road, bout 5.30 in.
Loved the bubble car at 3.00mins.
Not a drop of white or yellow paint to be seen ! No road markings at all, amazing !
