Progress so far...
I have got the basic outlines cut out. I just used a drill bit to get the worst out and small drill grindstones. I then filed it down smoother to get the shape and corners. I also ground down the Honda logo that was embossed on it as this looked a bit odd.
I have been having a think about whether or not to use the noise reduction plate as well with the Lexan window in between the two. This may give it a bit more stability and maybe help the noise.
As you can see there is quite a gap so I am now going to get some thicker Lexan sheet and cut some away like I have done the rest so it recess and leave a nice flush finish on the face of the cover.
It will take longer a bit fiddly to do but will be worth it in the end.
Got the sound reduction plate cut out as well.
There's 6mm clearance between the sound reduction plate and the face of the cover, so I shall add another 4mm which will make it 9mm Lexan sheet required. So with the 4mm and the sound reduction plate this will protrude towards the clutch pressure plate by about 5-6mm.
I'm just hoping I have enough clearance for this. I could remove the cover on my bike and have a measure up, but am not and am just going to take a gamble. If the worst come to the worst I will have to grind some of the head on the centre bolt down. Or use a bit of threaded bar and a narrow nut.
As for lighting I'm thinking of using the following:

or the cheaper option

The important thing being that they are both up to the IP-67 standard, so it's sealed and 100% water-proof. They are covered in silicone but I am unsure about withstanding heat. It will cope up to about 50 degrees C. I shall also cover it in some High temp silicone which also will also be used to glue it around the circumference of the inner casing.
I am still unsure on the colour for the light, either Red or a Cool White. I pulling towards the cool white as this has a hint of Blue in it and will help highlight the clutch pressure plate which is going in Red. The light will have the added benefit of giving a little light down behind my Oil filler level window which will help with reading.
Everything is rubbed down and prepared ready for painting. Just got to fine some suitable paint that meets my requirements. I am after a textured granite look.
Something along the lines of this.

It's a shame that is for indoor use and not heat resistant.

though I may just give it a go, but I will have to get some heat resistant primer first to get a good key, and then find a decent heat resistant clearcoat for the top in preferably matte.
