"Different pigments behave differently. If you have ever painted a room Red"

Beg to differ - Earth colours give relatively good coverage, that's why there's red oxide primers. From an artist's perspective the ochres, siennas and umbras are good stable natural earth colours used since cave painting began.

Yellow (at least in the arty farty world) is notoriously translucent and probe to fade, but more modern synthetic compounds have improved the problem. The pearlescent coats need multiple layers because of the pearl paint particles are carried in a clear body, so just hope that hasn't been damaged through thel lacquer effected by the sun.

I agree if the clear coat can be salvaged then that save a lot of work having to repaint. I was surprised when prepping my faded red paintwork the red seemed okay underneath, it was the clear coat that taken the appearance of cataracts,

Thanks
I got a yellow storm last year and thought the paint had faded on RHS, as it didn't glisten in the sunlight, turned out it had been sprayed, was a good base color match but the pealrecent was not in the laquer.

I replaced panels on ebay as was cheaper than a respray on a 15yr old bike.
