Thinking of a couple more mods...

Post by Ckennedy »

Being as though the bike panels and tank come back from being clear coated (can not spell the proper word  ) I am thinking of a couple of extra mods.
The ones I am thinking of are as follows:

Quick throttle HRC kit: As I am fed up of my gloves coming out from under my sleeve when giving it some big licks as I am sure a lot of you are.

The stack conversion: Am I right in assuming it is the short stack I want to change for a long one? If so does anyone have a spare?

Head light conversion: I have read a few threads on here but I am unsure which gives the best results. The beaver kit or the home made job? Do not mind spending money on the bike but 'if I can make the kit myself cheaper then I will but I am unsure how it all works, any simplified info would be nice so I do not get confused again haha.

And also some better indicators for the bike. AMCQ commented on the ones I have fitted saying they were rather naff so I think some brighter ones are req. Maybe even some indicator mirrors, any ideas on good ones to use with little modifacation?

Oh and I have a under tray to fit to the bike as well, I am assuming I have to cut the origional one to fit it? and how have others secured the plugs ect near the rear lights to stop them moving.

You may have guessed I am trying to make this bike just a little bit different from stock haha

As if I have not changed the look enough

A nice little list to keep you going there. :)

HRC throttle most of us like, it certainly takes that extra twist of the wrist away. You can use the standard cables but you need to max the adjustment out at the carbs.

Two long stacks give more low midrange grunt at the sacrifice of loosing a bit of top end, two shorts do the opposite. Honda probably only put the short on to give the bike a little higher top speed to boost the numbers in sales or something. Rivalling their competition.

Headlight conversion there are various routes you could take. II will leave that for someone else to explain that's done a headlight conversion.

Indicators, again there are so many to choose from, but try and stay away from the cheap and cheerful as they wont last. Your front indis would look better mounted further in, so the base of the arrow is in the cut out in the fairing. As for indicator mirrors, there are only the cheap Chinese type copies with the adjustable spacing for the mount. Personally I will be going down the route of GSXR mirrors eventually, but they will need modding to fit.

As for fitting the undertray you need to keep the front section of the original one as that is where your battery sits. So if you trim it just in front of the round cross bar behind the battery, you can then drill some hole in the plastic and cable tie it to the bar. I would try and keep as much of the original as possible. Maybe just cut out the bit where the new undertray peaks at the round shape (if that makes sense). As for the electrics they can be moved and cable tied onto the subframe or use heavy duty double sided sticky pads and leave them where they are more or less. An undertray should not affect the tail light. What undertray have you got? Don't forget you need to figure out a way of mounting your numberplate. Tail tidy!!!! or bolt it directly to the rear of the undertray.

I don't think there is such a thing as a stock bike is there.

I seem to remember seeing a thread of here about someone making a washer or something for the standard throttle but I can not find it anywhere.

Not to bothered about loads of top end, would like a little more get up and go at the low end.

I have thought about the GSXR mirrors but the mounting bolts are so far off it is unbelieveable. I have seen these, had them on my old SV650 and there still on there now working well : Item number: 310364332095 The LED is great, if you see it from the right angle
I am going to look at maybe re drilling the fairing for the GSXR mirrors when I get it back tomorrow but at the price of the mirrors they will have to wait a little while.

I know exactally what you mean with the under tray for cutting out the dome thingy. It is a pyramid undertray I got from Jester a long time a go. It already has mounting holes for the number plate and indicators ect. Had it painted with the rest of the bike.

None standard bikes are the best. Just trying to make mine stand out from the rest like we all do haha

It's not the mounting holes in the fairing, but the stem on the mirrors need cutting and then an attachment a bit like Basblokes mirror extenders to attach to the storm mirror mount. It needs to be hollow for the wires. Or make a plate up that alter the angle and attach directly onto the storm mount. The angle on the GSXR ones are totally wrong.

Cheap copy of GSXR mirrors

Right that makes life a bit harder then. If I had the right equipment I would have a go at making something myself as I quite like doing things like that. I have a standard mirror in front of me and I am thinking of maybe getting some sticky LED strips and sticking them to the origional mirrors  But I am worried about this looking a bit tacky. I was also thinking about maybe cutting the front from the mirror and then fitting a bulb holder + wires but then there is the problem of getting a lens the right shape.

I will bare that in mind Lloyd. Keep one aside for me and I will see if I can collect this weekend if you are around. You will have to text me your post code again though as I can not quite remember how to get there

Marty had a go at this and it's probably harder than making an adapter to fit something else. You can't get replacement glass for the originals either. You would be better off with those ones you posted earlier.

I may well go down that route of the LED mirrors I posted up. The main one I think is the headlight as I was out longer than expected the other day and remembered how bad the origional headlight was. Is it not just the reflector that is the problem? if so could one be made or exist already that is easy to change?

for the headlight you need a brighter bulb, and to stop that heating the switchgear and loosing all the voltage you need a relay kit.

they claim the relay kit by itself will make the stock 55/60W brighter, but on mine It didnt look that way. but it allowed me to run a 55/100W bulb and that is great......till I go back on dip :(

I might have to look at a bulb with a higer wattage dip as well.

looks like standing room only round Lloydies with people after his long one

If the weather is nice I shall be there. But I may even pop down sooner to pick it up as I could do with another set of ears to listen to the slight rattle I have coming from somewhere on the engine. I can not pin point it to save my life. If you do not mind of course.

Not sure about that, Lloydie is getting old and his hearing may be going. I'm 6 miles down the road from him and have lovely, young ears
