Rusty down pipe

Post by Fester »

I spent 30 mins today cleaning the rust off the front cylinder down pipe, using wire wool; what do folk use to keep theirs free from rust, if anything?

Clean it once a year with a pan scourer (not as course as wire wool) and PLENTY of wd40. You don't wanna be taking off the pitifully thin coating of stainless or they'll be even worse!!

The beauty of using wd40 is it stops it going rusty again.
Instead, after a while it goes a fairly fetching bronze colour which coincidentally nearly matches the blade fork legs

I use one of thoses green pan scrubs and solvol, keeps it shiny if you do it regularly.

Those pipes look great, mine seem to be more of a rusty old brick colour despite continous cleaning, but then MINES SEES THE RAIN! :P

Ooh, ya cheeky fekker!!
OK, so they've not seen the rain THIS YEAR but then again they haven't been touched since I did my last track day at Oulton in november. That was in a friggin monsoon!! It got slung in the garage still dripping and was only cleaned just before the MoT

WD40 -I've seen the future (and its NOT garlic bread  )
