dented akros....

Post by benny hedges »

decided as the weaather is too shitty for riding i'd fit my akropovic cans and power commander etc..... got them out the box to give them a clean and had a proper look - the left one is a bit bashed

the inside, shouldn't be visible on the bike
Image

and the outside.... hopefully will buff out!
Image

when i can be arsed i'll replace the scratched rivet strap and beat the dent out of the inside of the cone - and replace the stickers.
i have got a pair but they're the wrong ones, too small - off the newer style akros, but before they went to oval logos :/

amazed there was only this damage tbh....
thing is, you cant buy these cans and linkys now and they go for £600 - £800 on ebay.
the bike just isnt the same with the oem cans on - can hardly hear it and it feels strangled.
no point fitting the power commander without the cans so elbow grease it is!

i'll add a pic after when ive got the marks out - cheers to cheekykev for the scotchbrite

Ouch, I think it's one of the most hurtful things to get damaged in a crash, especially if they are irreplaceable. That's quite a nasty little creased dent on the inside, but at least it's not seen and they are still usable.

spent a few hours on em with wet n dry and scotchbrite and the scrapes are near enough gone :)

Image

ordered up some new decals as well - proper ones :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-A ... 2ec63b4470

these ones are the proper size - and heatproof foil stickers unlike the ones from m&p.

the only place you can get proper akro parts from now is calsport - unless you pay daft money for someone else to get them from calsport lol

looking forward to seeing (and hearing) them on the bike again :D

What're ya like, you should have de-riveted them yesterday while i was there :confused then I could have taken them to work with me and got them sorted out for ya, trust me you would not be able to tell they'd ever been damaged, just for the record, a titanium sleeve, 2 rivet straps, rivets and a badge works out at £160 each can from Calsport :Jaw Drop:
I do know someone who can make sleeves at a fraction of the cost
You'll be very lucky if you can find any Akros anywhere for parts, I've done a lot of research on this and even spoke to the company, according to Akrapovic, unfortunately the inlet cone you're referring to is not a separate part, it is part of the exhaust, the only parts they have as spares is what I’ve mentioned above, and it comes as a kit not as separates :(

one is already on - i'll do the other when ive thawed out lol.

the dent in the back didnt look half as bad cleaned up, and the scrape on the side is 99% invisible - youd have to be very picky to spot it tbh.
they can stay like that til it's time for a repack.

ordered up the new badges from calsport - the right one has a nick in it off my panniers last year so ill change them both.
cant wait to fire it up

100 grit then 600 w&d then purple scotchbrite then buffed it with white
looks bob on :)

Image

didnt want them chromey shiny, just a brushed stainless look to match the satin finish on the ti cans.
i think ti cans look better with a matt finish rather than buffed up.

gave em a spray with gt85 then a good run and theyre a nice even colour now, cant see the scratches :)
