Re: Bike sold - what next?
Yeah very true about the IL4. I hadn't really thought about it, but now you mention it, when my R1 was at the point it felt the most fun, I was already going way faster than I should have been. Hmm...
Although I suppose that part of the bike was what made it so good in the Alps in France. No police and lots of speed....
The SP is sounding the better option, but why are they so damned expensive? It seems like for the same money I can buy a 2005-6 Blade / R1 or a 2001 SP.
How does the tech on the SP match up to newer IL4s? In terms of suspension, brakes, handling etc....??
How much better is the SP2 than the SP1?

Not the most in depth review but it explains some of the key features between the two bikes:Miztaziggy wrote:Yeah very true about the IL4. GSXR corrodes no more than other bikes of the time, it really is in another league to the other litre il4's of the time.
From what i know the sp2 has different geometry to the sp1, for the better. Also the poor fueling was addressed but not completely eliminated. Power commander again helps to make it smoother.

Re: Bike sold - what next?
If your after sheer power, easy to ride & handling to boot look at a Busa.
Re: Bike sold - what next?
The fuelling issues on the SP1 are irrelivant, as its only at very low speed, like traffic filtering at 20 mph, where you notice it, and lets be honest, if you ride in traffic loads, dont buy a superbike. Once you actually get the old girl moving, its not an issue. TBH i got used to it and automatically rode around the issue, its really isnt as bad as they say.popkat wrote:GSXR corrodes no more than other bikes of the time, it really is in another league to the other litre il4's of the time.

Build quality on the SP1 is the best on any bike I've owned, pretty sure they were all hand built. Apparently the original price they sold for, £10,000, they lost money on every one.

loving this thread and people's ideas and experiences.darkember wrote:If your after sheer power, easy to ride & handling to boot look at a Busa.
however I would advise 'looking' at a Busa as they're pig ugly. Just an opinion

Even pigs have feelings. Please stop comparing them to that aerodynamic and quick but bloated and ugly monstrosity.BigVeeGrin wrote:loving this thread and people's ideas and experiences.darkember wrote:If your after sheer power, easy to ride & handling to boot look at a Busa.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Bike sold - what next?
my vote goes for the tuono or maybe a ktm superduke? they're regarded as outright lunatic machines and a decent rider will keep up with virtually any sports bike on one
the b1h 636 is apparently when kawasaki really got serious with being mental, very track orientated so I personally wouldn't want to be going around Europe on one, I think the 600f would suit that far more

Re: Bike sold - what next?
I didn't realise the b1h 636 is supposed to be that mental, ill definitely look into the 600F then instead.
As for my bike, I hadn't thought about a Busa, I do like the idea of out and out power but as tony says they are pretty ugly.
At the moment I am about 40% for 1000RR, about 40% for SP1 and about 20% for R1. I have given up on the idea of a ZX10.
I have seen a couple of decent 2006 1000RR which according to MCN page Virt linked to the one to go for over the 2004-5 model. Very tempted.
I am really struggling to find a decent SP1 in my price range though (<£4500). There are a couple about, but usually 25k + miles. I know that this isn't particularly high mileage, but if I get one with 25k on it, ill be selling it with 40k + and it will lose a ton of its value. The price is the only thing putting me off the SP now. They just seem really expensive.
There is this one, but the ad sounds dodgy with the sold as seen line...also those exhausts look awful

There are quite a few around £5500 mark, but the way I see it, if I were going to stretch to that, then I may as well stretch another £500 and get a big bang R1 which is what I still really want someday.

Re: Bike sold - what next?
out of the bikes you've named id certainly go for the blade as the most sensible option for road riding, my mate has one and loves it, another mate had an 07 blade and loved that, both comfortable (considering they're sports bikes) and absolutely bomb proof
yeah as far as I'm aware the b1h really moved the goal posts for sports 600s, a steering damper is apparently an essential bit of kit for one

Re: Bike sold - what next?
also if you look on trading standards that "sold as seen" from garages I a load of sh1t, the goods have to be fit for purpose for a reasonable length of time (no definition for reasonable length of time though)
