Replace engine or Rebuild

Post by barnstormer »

I need to ask for a bit of advice guys. CCT's went on me the other week. Was only doing about 5 MPH so was hoping I would get away without serious damage. No such luck. Any body with ideas to which would be best option. My engine has 26 tho on it. Garage is saying it depends on what i would prefer, rebuild mine or find a low milage second hand one. Any thoughts gratefully received.
Cheers

Depends on the damage but you can get 2nd hand ones at a steal - like I said, depending on the damage, maybe pick up another and keep your current one for spares.
Out of my way or I'll eat the lot of ye!!

Cheers for that Johny  ,mechanic recons ive taken a couple of pieces out ot the valves. Just been looking for engine through breakers in Mcn, does £450 +vat sound about right. One of them who breaks engines recons i could away with just cylinder heads 8O . Now being an absolute tw*t with anything thats got moving bits on it I havent got a clue if this is right or not.

My front CCT went and all was OK till we tried to bumpstart (didn't realise it was the CCT then) and bent two exhaust valves.
They are £31 + VAT each, plus fitting, plus CCT. Can't see that the labour involved would be as much as removing old engine and refitting new one etc, so, though all options not cheap, I'm having the parts replaced. She's done nearly 40,000 but I know it has never been thrashed/always had oil changed regularly with good stuff etc, which I wouldn't know with a S/H engine

Thanks for help evry1.Got him to Strip it down and rebuild.was showing 85psi on front cylinder and only 50 on back 1. now its done it feels like its got loads more pull than before but think it might have lost some top end. Cost £330 in the end. Better than £800 tho :)
That price for gaskets was for a set and was approx price off George White parts . Just had a nice spin on it now, felt like the longest week Ive had since i started riding. :!:
Thanks again for help and advice
