Stainless, just google nut and bolt suppliers, buy more than you need and sell the other sets on to get your money back.
By the way, forget Pro-Bolt's aluminium ones, the have a Helicoil-type insert and it doesn't stay put, the insert sticks to the stud and you destroy them getting them off. I've had two sets, that's enough, unless you want to treat them like disposable parts.
Anyway, what's wrong with Ti?

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Best place for sprocket bolts
Just remember that Stainless bolts are not high tensile!!!

missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
Re: Best place for sprocket bolts
They don't really need to be, as the forces acting on the sprocket are laterally through the studs themselves, and so shear strength on the studs is what's needed. The nuts are merely to hold the sprocket onto it's flange.
Tensile strength is essential for holding parts together that are being pulled apart by the forces acting upon them, not the case with sprocket nuts.

i was thinking, why would probolt sell s/s nuts if there was a safety issue....mr mon to the rescue....tony.mon wrote:They don't really need to be, as the forces acting on the sprocket are laterally through the studs themselves, and so shear strength on the studs is what's needed. Re: Best place for sprocket bolts
Very true but i dont fit stainless nuts to Normal bolts, There can have some sort of chemical reaction. Use a copper slip type grease to aid removal later.bigspanishmarty wrote:i was thinking, why would probolt sell s/s nuts if there was a safety issue....mr mon to the rescue....tony.mon wrote:They don't really need to be, as the forces acting on the sprocket are laterally through the studs themselves, and so shear strength on the studs is what's needed. I'd recommend using copper grease to most steel bolts or nuts to aid removal later.
Any dissimilar metals adjacent to each other can set up a dielectric current, which often promotes corrosion, but can also act to chemically bond the metals together.
Grease can also act to exclude water from being allowed to creep into the small gaps along the spiral length of the threads under capillary action.
The water can accelerate corrosion, especially when it has a salt content, such as can be found when gritting has taken place.
