Taking a passenger for the first time on my storm.

Post by WoodyNZ »

Hey Mates

I am in New Zealand and was riding from the top of the South Island to Kaikoura (about 130kms). About 30 ks out from getting there I saw someone pushing his bike along the side of the highway. I pulled over to see if he was alright and the muppet had run out of petrol. Being the saint I am, I offered to take him to kaikoura so he can get a Jerry can of petrol, so we parked his bike on the side of the road. This bloke was about 100kg's (15 stone). Geez the storm didn't like that. Power was OK but it handled like sh1t. Felt like the front end was really light and was going to pop up at any moment. Anyway got him the petrol and rode him back to his bike.

I guess the bike is not used to passengers that heavy? I assume the suspension can be adjusted.

Anyway just thought I should tell you of my experience with a passenger on the Storm. Also I am secretly hoping the "gods of Karma" are reading this about my good deed

Have a good Easter.

Need full rear preload with a big passenger, and it helps if you already have a spacer on the shock mount to get the back end as hig as possible

And like lloydie said. Well done for helping a stranded biker  Good kara will come round

Well done woody, keeping the good spirit of bikers

As AMCQ said the suspension needs to be set up for pillions, especially oversized pillions. At least it wasn't a whole family.

Thanks guys

The guy wanted to fill my tank as payment but I said nah, pay it forward (cheesy movie quote). I said am sure you will do it for someone else one day.

Anyway he insisted he buy me a Pie while we were at the petrol station. I couldn't refuse that offer. :)

whoa marty ! last time you quoted your kerb weight im sure you said 21 st .

anyway woody good on you mate . last summer I gave a young fella whose scooter had conked out a lift home , about seven miles. he was only about 17 and probably only about 10 stone I guess.

he,d never been on a proper bike so I nipped up up to about 100 on the dual carriage way and he was right chuffed when I dropped him off at his dads

the old firestorm was steady as a rock
