JDM Brochure/ What's this?

Hi folks! Does anyone have any info on this? I was casually browsing the german ebay, and this japanese vtr brochure caught my eye. Is it an external rear shock reservoir or what?

its almost as if they were going to update the rear suspension on the later model, done the brochure and changed there mind......

It's either shock related or some kind of reservoir for a chain oiler. weird how they have it on the brochure though if it's not a standard part.

The brochure gives a more detailed shot of the part, so I would guess it's an uprated shock for the Japanese market -
